I own a strat and was thinking about buying these pick ups because i heard a lot of great things about them. Has anyone here played a strat with these pick ups installed and if yes then how do they fare versus the standard strat one's.

Mine were a great improvement over standard strat stock pups. A good amp will magnify this improvement in tone. I use a Blues Deluxe amp. A sweet combination !!

I did not do this install, but have done my own pup changes on my LP which is a piece of cake (if you can solder). The Seymour Duncan website has a video clip on how to change PUPs that is pretty good.

I am not sure if they are the same thing as the Tex-mex strats, but if so, they are great pups! Those are the pups that are in the Jimmy Vaughan strat and they are amazing.

The pickups in the Jimmy Vauhn strat are "Tex-Mex" pickups. If your looking for a strat that has them stock. The SRV model has them and the Mark Knopfler has them as well. I believe the Roadhouse Strat has but I am not too sure about that.

I just got a set and I am having them installed in my Strat. Hopefully I'll get her back soon. I'll drop a post in here when I do and let you know.

Hi,
Make sure you are talking about the right pups.

Fender has Texas Specials and Tex Mex pups.
Other than the middle pup being a little hotter on the Texas special
the Tex Mex pups are hotter overall according to Fender specs.
I installed Texas specials in the neck and middle positions and a S.D. Hotrail in the bridge of a strat. It sounds great after playing with pups heights.
Hope this helps.

Just fired up my American Fat Strat Tecas Special today... Man, those pickups are classic Fender glassy, swirly tone. I love them.

When a pup is referred to as "hot", does that mean output or frequency response or both (or neither)?

Thanks.

The Japanese premium models have Texas Specials, and they sound amazing. But then they are Japan guitars.. But having said that, they are pretty damn similiar to specs in the American Vintage!
