All I know is that if I can help someone not get taken advantage of in anything I'm going to help. I would hope someone would help me if I needed it. I don't see this as a waste of time.

Windwalker, I think you're being a bit harsh on ebay. Just like the real world, there are goodies and baddies out there. Of course there are scamartists on ebay, but this is a very small percentage. There may well be better deals to be had elsewhere, but for people like myself living in a remote location, it is extremely convenient.
I have made hundreds of transactions and have never had a single problem, but if something did go wrong, they have a buyer protection policy which is better than many others.
Of course buying an item unseen is risky but you learn to interpret photos and descriptions.
When buying expensive items you need to establish a relationship with the seller before you act. It just takes a bit of intelligence, diplomacy and respect.
I also do not suffer fools. The world is not black and white.
........Mark.

^^^ i absolutely agree! You just need to know what youre doing. You need to know what to look for, some people are easily fooled yes, but if you use common sense and are tactful you can get absolute bargains.

I have bought two of my strats off ebay. And they are the best guitars i have owned. Perfect in every way. Tastefully setup with great mods. I picked up my seafoam green strat with SLIDER'S SRV '59 pups, + great components. MIJ $700.

I bought them both from the same seller because he has the best guitars.

You sure seem to be spending an awful lot of time telling people how they shouldn't spend time reporting things on E-Bay. Why do you even care what people are doing about things like this? You find it worthless? Fine. You don't think people should do it? Fine. Keep it to yourself and don't come here telling others what they should or should not do.

Although I agree with this, I have to say the sentence is a contradiction in itself.

Cheers

Just picked up this thread. I have had great success with the 'bay, but have seen some truly shocking scams and have even been caught by one myself (picked up a US Deluxe Strat that someone had put together and spent a lot of time faking the labels and tags).
Still a nice Strat though.

If I see a fake I'm afraid I report it straight away. The whole point of us being a 'community' is to enjoy and promote our common interest/obsession. For those that might know a little more about right and wrong guitars there is a small responsibility to share with others to stop them being ripped off and bringing down the reputation of the honest folk who deal or contribute.

I welcome genuine advice from my colleagues here.

Now getting off my high horse!

Yeah seller might not know, all his feedback except 1 is as a buyer, not a seller, so looks like he doesn't sell a lot.

I saw a post on another forum where someone sold a fake clapton on ebay for $1250. It was too late to try to do anything about that one though. The guy who sold it actually bought the body off ebay from xhefri. It was a little closer to a real clapton anyway, it was a clapton neck, and clapton body, but not a clapton loaded pickguard.

LOL, Just now saw this post. So that was the really nice Blackie body I sold early this summer? Did the guy get a EC neck somewhere and build one or what?

EDIT: Just finished reading the whole thread. Man, lot's of ideas here. I have sold s ton of stuff on ePay and have had a few bad deals. I also found ebay very helpful when I have been ripped. The last time i got a complete refund and the scumbag who sole me the guitar paid shipping, all fees and total refund, even though he did threaten my life! LOL!

As far as reporting things, ya, the more people help, the safer the place is. Even the world is like that. When people standby and do nothing, then innocent people get hurt and pushed around by unethical people. That is fine for those who don't care—until it happens to them. I have given help to 100s of ePay people and most all of them were really thankful that I did. A lot of people are innocently ignorant of what they have or how to research it on the web. Why not help people out if one has the time and the burden?

Yeah I was looking on ebay yesterday and came across this ..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Standard ... 4aabdb6ad2

It claims that the guitar was made in the US but it's actually a Mexican made machine. I e-mailed them to point out the error but evidently they don't care.

We'll see if anyone bites !!

Yeah he bought a real clapton neck, but a loaded pickguard from a FSR strat. It had the noiseless pickups, but was a 3 ply 11 hole pickguard. I don't know if the guitar had the mid boost or not, he didn't say it did, but he advertised it as a real Clapton strat.

Someone posted a link to it on another forum, with links to the ended auctions where the guy bought the parts. I didn't see it until it was sold. I was going to check back sometime and see if the buyer even noticed or left him any feedback, but I forgot about it.

Well, I guess this is as good a thread as any to ask this. . .

I like putting together partscasters. I recently converted my Deluxe Powerhouse Strat to a full blown Clapton spec Strat. It has the exact same circuit board, Vintage Noiseless pickups, vintage width bridge & TBX pot as the Clapton sig, with soft "V" MIM neck and it has been wired up exactly per the Clapton specs off Fender's web site. It's as close to a Clapton Signature as you can get without actually buying one, but since it has a MIM Powerhouse body and MIM Classic Series 50's neck it's significantly less expensive to build. It's a monster btw. . .

I already know people seldom buy partscasters on eBay, and I'd love to clear about $500 for this one. I'd like to give it a shot before I eventually part it out. So to be perfectly ethical and up front about it, what should I call it?

A Clapton Spec Powerhouse?

A custom Clapton Strat?

A vintage spec Strat with Clapton pickups?
