I've found eBay useless in this regard.
I had a strat for sale here in NZ and some dude used my pics to set up a bogus guitar on eBay. I wrote to eBay three times and they did nothing. Fortunately at the time I was able to contact the buyer but amazingly they then never left negative feedback!
The bogus guy then set up another false auction on a different guitar and the next buyer got ripped. Unbelievable....
Hopefully this one had a happy ending.

chromeface,

Look at the eBay ad, it claims to be a "USA Clapton Signature Blackie", and it is a fake, it isn't even a Fender 70s Strat. The eBay guitar is a Squier with fake decals. The eBay guitar in the ad has nothing in common with the two different guitars in your pics. If it were meant as a "tribute", then the seller should have stated that. Of course it was advertised as genuine, and it is not.

The seller sent an email to me saying that he was pulling the ad, we'll see if he does or not.

But, no doubt about it, the guitar is fake, fake, fake.

I totally agree, this is one of the several fake Fenders circulating on eBay.

Personally I think it's an all-parts guitar.

Who cares. Buyer beware, you're not going to get it off,or stop it. Just send the guy a message telling hiim if he's knowingly selling it that way; he's a scumbag, and if he accidentily mislabled it, to change it.

You are right, buyer beware. But read the whole thread, we did send the seller a message, and the ad was pulled. So, yes we can, and we did. :P

+1

There's nothing to be gained by pissing into a headwind. Let FMIC's legal department bear this cross -- better to spend one's time on something personally productive like learning a few new riffs or changing out some strings.

You'd feel differently if I this guy sold this guitar to your friend's kid.

I have a different view about life than you. When I see something wrong, I'm stepping up and doing something about it. Ironically, I learned more about authentic Clapton guitars, confirmed my perception of this fake, learned how to report a scam to eBay, and contributed to this forum. So in reality, it wasn't a waste of time for me.

No, I wouldnt. If someone is willing to spend that kind of money on something thats so obviously not what it says what it is, then theyneed to get an $$ education.
As soon as you log onto eBay, you should assume that you're going to pay too much, its not going to be in good of shape as it says it is. I cant remember the last time i bought anything off that sight. Why anyone would buy anything used off that sight, except if MAYBE they cant find it anyplace else is beyond comprehension.
Any used guitar, amp, effect you find on ebay; you can find on the used section of GC site, or the several other chains' sights, for less money. I stoppped going there looking to buy guitars a few year ago when it was filled with 4 year old strats and LP's for the same $$ as new ones.
I spare no pity on people that are going to buy something like that strat, when the web is FILLED with them to look at and compare. Falling for that would be stupidity, not ignorance, because its just too easy to find an EC strat, look at it, and say "that doesnt look anything like what i saw on eBay." I dont suffer fools.

Quick follow up. I WILL NOT pay more than somethings worth, nor will I charge it. I just sold one of my Tim overdrives. Now i sold it for what I paid for it, but if you look on eBay and see what dirtbags are charging for them; the person i sold it to considered buying it for the $160 i paid for it as if i knocked $100 off. eBay is the worst sight to buy anything used from. Even new; ive seen too many B-stocks advertised as new, which they are, but not new as in worth what you can buy one new from a store for. Obviously the OP knew it was a fake. Im jsut not spending my time shoveling s&@t against the tide, which is all it is trying to call out people on that sight.
