I won't post a link but if you search on eBay for "Fender Stratocaster Clapton," you'll see one that looks pretty phony. eBay believed the seller and won't pull it. It's a fake right? How can I report this to Fender. It degrades the value of the true instrument when this goes on.

Thanks.

I assume you're talking about this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Stratoca ... 149wt_1139

I don't know if Fender would have time to do anything, but on ebay there's a link on the right side of the page that says Report Item, you can click that and fill out some stuff saying it's counterfeit or fake. I filled it out, I suggest a few other's do too too. If enough people do, they would probably pull it.

Good. Now that I'm confident it's really fake, I'll do that too.

I sent a message to the seller, giving him the benefit of the doubt. But, then I noticed only 17 hours left in the auction, so I reported it to eBay as well.

Yeah seller might not know, all his feedback except 1 is as a buyer, not a seller, so looks like he doesn't sell a lot.

I saw a post on another forum where someone sold a fake clapton on ebay for $1250. It was too late to try to do anything about that one though. The guy who sold it actually bought the body off ebay from xhefri. It was a little closer to a real clapton anyway, it was a clapton neck, and clapton body, but not a clapton loaded pickguard.

I believe this guitar is supposed to replicate the black '73 Strat EC gave to Ronnie Lane; the tuners and the 4-bolt neck plate are characteristic of the very last Strats from the early 1980's to feature the large peghead.

Here's a photo of the Ronnie Lane-owned '73:

Eric used a similar guitar in sunburst for slide playing circa 1978 (Tulsa Time, Standing Around Crying [with Muddy Waters]).

Well, doesn't say anything like that in the auction. So none of that really applies.

chromeface,

Look at the eBay ad, it claims to be a "USA Clapton Signature Blackie", and it is a fake, it isn't even a Fender 70s Strat. The eBay guitar is a Squier with fake decals. The eBay guitar in the ad has nothing in common with the two different guitars in your pics. If it were meant as a "tribute", then the seller should have stated that. Of course it was advertised as genuine, and it is not.

The seller sent an email to me saying that he was pulling the ad, we'll see if he does or not.

But, no doubt about it, the guitar is fake, fake, fake.

He hasn't pulled the ad either. We may see this one again, as a new member joins, asking; "is this real?", after buying it.
