Hi onesweetaxe,

Welcome to the forum. No selling allowed here. Take it to eBay or Craig's List, or somewhere else. :)

When Fender still offerred their "Time Machine" series, there were three lines within it -- the "NOS", "Closet Classic", and "Relic" instruments; each of them with a distinct level of visible wear and aging. All of the pickups (so far as I know) were the Custom Shop 57/62's for any vintage up through 1963. Later re-issue years got their own specific re-created pickups.

I have a 60s Closet Classic and it has the Custom Shop 60s P/U,s. The p/u are the same no matter which finish you get on the guitar. But the 57/62 pu,s are some of my favorites. I had a 62AVRI that I loved but sold to get the CS 60,s.

Arjay you're normally spot on but the 56 Time Machine pickups certainly look different than the 60s Time Machine. Their construction may be similar but the 56 pickups don't have the bevel like the 60s or the 57/62s :D

That seems a bit irregular since all vintage Strat pickups featured beveled magnets.

Have you got a pic or two of a '56 Time Machine's pickups that you can post? I'm curious.

Hi Arjay not trying to argue just to me the bevel on the 57/62 and 60s looks more pronounced than on the 56. The bevel is there just not as apparent and hence different. Could be just my bad eyesight but i have added pics so you can judge for yourself. I only still have the 56 so cannot make a sonic judgement.
Maybe the ones on mine are not typical and someone else can comment.

The first is a 60s time machine followed by a 57 anni with 57/62s followed by an average shot of the 56 pus (dust from the case!)and then the guitar they are from

Well the magnet bevel on the re-issue 57/62's is in fact too extreme -- on my '63 and my '66 (actual vintage) it was hardly noticeable compared to what's being sold today. More like a very gentle chamfer than machine-turned on a lathe.

BTW, that's an outstanding Mary Kaye......just gorgeous!!!

Rawk on!!!

+1 on the Mary Kaye...I'd bet Arjay liked it because of all the gold, he likes the shiney stuff when it comes to hardware    ..of course truth be known that 60s Time Machine would look fantastic with gold hardware too! Seems to me I saw a picture like that once...

Hey thanks for those kind words guys.
It is a lovely guitar I do have a couple that are real lookers but the Mary Kaye is a nice player. A really comfortable neck as well. :D
