+1 Ceri

Yet another reason that this topic doesn't belong here. It has nothing to do with "Stratocaster® Guitars" either.

You know, I was thinking about that. Do you think Fender "Dropped a Dime" on Gibson?
Or just idiot bueracrats?

I think it's more likely it was a disgruntled (possibly ex,) employee than anything.

Speaking of irony...

Gotta wonder that it's Henry J's company getting it's second raid, under proviso of the Lacey Act, when good ole Henry sat on the board of the Rainforest Alliance when they helped the government form the amendments to expand it`s coverage of plants and plant product (including logging and timber imports,) which are the very things Gibson seems to be under examination for.

Hopefully their paperwork is in order.

I don't think there is any conspiracy, or disgruntled employee. They got caught with banned woods just two years ago. I think they were just keeping an eye on them. I don't know if its the same ceo, but the guy arrested a couple years ago is the epitome of hypocrite. He was on the board that is supposed to protect the very same trees who's wood was found in their warehouse.

IM no tree hugger, but when guitar makers have to use ogavagal and other woods "in the same family as rosewood and mahogany" because the supply of the real wood, we're in a bad place. In 30-50 years from now, you'll be spending HD28/ prices for epiphone build quality if you want real rosewood.

I do have to agree with Ceri- this is the most entertaining read since MIA vs, MIM- Relic, Vintage and Vinnypop :) Lots of people jumping to assumptions without doing a little reading about the topic.

But amoung other stories circulating about the rosewood, I heard another story..

it's only a matter of time before Brad locks this thread as he did mine.
the first one was getting very political
if it's kept to the issue at hand it should n't be locked.

guitars can be politically correct too i guess.

just reread whole thread from the beginning
looks like Brad intended to lock but missed the lock button.

If Gibson is guilty of this than someone else has to be as well.
you think they are the only ones importing wood this way.

just a thought.

As time goes on and the world economy keeps slowing down, I am guessing that guitars will appreciate at a faster rate from now on.
Discounting the guitars from the 50´s and 60´s, please post your opinion on what guitars will be most valuable in the near future. I don´t hear much from Fenders of the 70´s but I do hear from Gibsons from the 70´s. What about the 80´s? Where they better than the 90´s? I am ignorant of the quality of production of the 90´s and 00´s.
For example, I value my MIJ Stratocasters from 1989, more than I would an American Standard from the 90´s. There is something special about them, yet I have not been offered more than 450 dollars for them. I wonder if they are worth keeping as an investment. My son wants to start playing, we go to the store and I see nothing that will beat these 21 year old MIJ´s, unless I spend some serious cash. Please comment!

70's Gibsons? Ugh, terrible, though not as bad as Fenders were. All the Les Pauls bodies were either butcher block looking slabs glued, or a bunch of layers like pancakes.
