buy a cheap Squier or Warmoth and go to town!

Yeah, except a Warmoth neck costs more than a entire Squire.

I don't think they come in nitro do they? And I would never pay what it cost to have a warmoth finished just for an experiment lol

Of course they do. Clear satin, and a vintage tint satin nitro (which would solve your "problem" in one fell swoop I might add!).

How much power was waisted on this experiment. And who paid for it?

I am sure it used quite a bit because I ran it for 14 days strait  and the company I work for paid me to waste their electricity

What about leaving your neck on a window sill in the sun for a few weeks? Even still down here- our UV index gets very high over the summer due to there being little ozone protection. I have allways wondered what would happen to a pickguard assembly doing this :)

the machine I used emits up 10 times the normal UVA, UVB, and UVC radiation levels that pass through the ozone layer. so my testing results reveal that the intensity of the radiation levels do not affect the finish much. I am beginning to think its length of time that has the strongest effect, so I cannot rush the process like I had hoped. but the plastic pieces age nicely this way. it just does not look natural because it is an even change. so it just looks darker as a whole and not so much "relic". I haven't found a way to mimic the shaded areas and soft lines yet. the machine is not large enough to place the entire guitar inside. and masking tape leaves sharp lines separating the exposed areas from the unexposed so it looks unrealistic. I am currently experimenting with different spf levels of sunblock brushed onto the plastic to mimic the soft lines of a real relic guard. I will post pictures if my results are successful. and I still have not located a junker nitro neck

Uhm...

There are quite a few luthiers here in the US who specialize in relicing/aging new guitars and a few of them are good enough that even a expert can be fooled.

Ask around. the answers are out there and theres no reason to reinvent the wheel.

If you're due a re-fret then you'll likely need a new neck finish too. May as well get it done a shade you like. Urethane neck finish is something I'm wholly in favour of, it just feels better than cellulose.

Even polyester yellows over time.
