It was late 1961 or early 1962, I was 14 and had saved money from mowing lawns. I took all the money I had and was determined to buy a Stratocaster. However, at the music store I discovered I did not have enough money for the Blue Stratocaster hanging on the wall. So I bought a Fender Duo Sonic instead. In the late '60s I had to sell the Duo Sonic and the Fender Bassman amp that I played thru. I went the acoustic route and still own two Martins, one I bought new in 1976 and the other in 2003. But I always wanted a Strat. Last week I stopped at a music store and they had a RI 1962 and I bought it. So it only took 50 years to get back to 1962. I bought a little Blues Jr to play thru and it is like 1962 all over again.

Hi Fendermartinguy,I think you will like it here. Lots of helpful and friendly folks hangin' out here. Congrats on the new Fender be sure and let us know how you like your new strat and enjoy your trip back to 1962 :D . If you don't mind me asking, what model Martins ya got? I own three of them and they all have their own "personality", and I would'nt part with any of them. Again welcome we're glad to have you.

Hi FenderMartinGuy,

Congrats! A '62 RI and a BJr sounds like a great combination. Of course you should always post a picture or two of any new gear that you acquire (unwritten, but often cited rule around here).

Upload your pics to a publicly accessible site such as PhotoBucket, then copy the "IMG" code from there, and paste in your post here. When you click "Preview" or "Submit", your pic will be visible in your post.

babalooga, the 1976 is a D1228 and the 2003 is a HD28V.

Guys: Thanks for the warm welcome. I will try to post a picture later today.

Welcome!
Several of us old guys wish we could go back and buy Pre-CBS Strats for what they sold for back then...of course like you,I didn't have enough money at the right time, sometimes....but seeing them go for $35,000 and up now,it makes me sick.
