Hello, I am new to the Fender Lounge, but not at all new to Fender guitars. I recently purchased an 80s MIJ Strat. I was told it was a 1987 '62 reissue. I have used the database to verify that it was made between 1984-1987, but I can not seem to find a definitive description of what the '62 reissue should look like. I was hoping some one on here might know for sure what model it is.

It is a 3 tone burst finish with a one piece neck and rosewood fretboard (no skunk stripe). The pickups are flush pole (non staggered). The truss rod adjustment is at the bottom of the neck and it has two string trees. It is a hard tail string through body. The tuners are stamped "FENDER JAPAN and the neck plate is stamped "FENDER". It has a 5 way selector switch and vintage style bridge saddles.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A true MIJ re-issue of a '62 model would have a single string tree, Gotoh vintage-style tuners, the "spaghetti" logo on the headstock, and pickups with staggered-and-beveled magnets. That said, cosmetically the guitar looks close in most other details and seems to be a fine instrument overall.

That's absolutely identical to one of my Strats - bought it used about 10 years ago, purely as I was after a hardtail for a bit of variety. I'd never actually seen another one until now! I think I traced mine to 1986 in the end.

Well, it *was* identical - It now has a replacement neck (due to getting smashed when our rehearsal room got broken into, also resulting in a body which looks like it's been through the relic shop about five times in a row  ), and all the electrics were replaced ages ago.

Still wouldn't part with it though - it has a very unique tone and feel. Not as 'stratty' as my other Strats, but still gets dragged out at recording sessions quite a lot just for a bit of variety - recording works incredibly well when double tracked with one of my US standards, adds something rather nice to the tone.
