Does anyone happen to know the full specs for the necks on '68 and '68 reissue Stratocasters? First of all, were they different from one another (i.e. was the reissue faithful to the original)?

I have one of the E-series MIJ '68 reissues which I purchased new sometime in the late 1980's. I know the fingerboard radius is 7.25", scale is 25.5", and I believe the width at the nut is 1 5/8". Does anyone happen to know what the thickness of the neck is? I'm considering having a replacement neck made for it with a flatter radius but I would like to keep the rest of the specs identical.

(BTW - I've noticed that different folks on the net call different guitars '68 reissues. Some have the large lettering on the headstock and others have the small letttering. Mine is the latter.)

Thanks for any help you can provide,
Joe

The revised headstock decal with the bigger lettering was introduced in the spring of 1968 -- hence the confusion since early 68's still used the transitional logo. Thus, either decal may be considered "correct".

The one with the smaller transition logo is not that accurate of a "Reissue" since it has two string trees, which would have been incorrect for any guitar made before the 1970s

+1

As well, every MIJ late '60s re-issue Strat neck I've seen has the wrong tuners on it. The Fender "F" tuner was introduced on the line in late '66 -- thus the Gotoh vintage-style Kluson clones are incorrect for the era.
