okay so last year i bought a peavey acoustic amp for $45 dollars and i put it on craigslist for $125 and some guy calls me and he said he had a 63-65 USA fender strat that the neck broke so he put a random neck on it and he changed the neck plate so he wanted me to give him the amp and $100 so i said i will take a look at it and it looks like a older guitar and it sounds great and the neck is definitely newer than the body so i did the trade and i brought it home and and looked in the back under the springs and there is no date and i took the pick guard off and no date i took the neck off and no date and when i took the pick guard off it is not the same body ans a 63-65 it has a body as a 85 or after and i wanna know if there is another way to see if it is real or not and if i can or were i can get it appraised the guy said that guitar center would give him $245 for it so if nothing else i will just take it there please someone help me cause it is worth alot more than that if it is real i will post pics when i know how to

Can you spell "rip off" boys and girls?

Probably not even a real Fender Strat body. There are plenty of copies out there. Face it. You've been taken.

Keep trading. Get anything you can use in exchange for this guitar.

The problem you will have trading it how will you describe it other that a strat body. You don,t know what it is. And im sure you don,t want to do to someone else what someone just did to you. I suggest you find out what you have. Post some pic,s people here will help you figure it out.

A guy says someone will give him $245 for it and you believe him?
That should have been your first tip off. If it is a real Fender from that era it would have gone for a lot more than $245! You can buy a used MIM for that money.

Why didn't you pull the covers off to find a date before the trade?

You've been taken for a ride. Consider it an education for what not to do in the future!

It seems doubtful, based on your story, that it's an American model, but for only $145.00 invested and you say that it plays great it looks like you did ok. If it turns out that it is American then you made out like a bandit. Either way you shouldn't feel bad. Keep your chin up and keep on rockin!

Hi toejoe625,

Upload your pics to a publicly accessible site such as PhotoBucket. Once uploaded, each picture will have an "IMG" code, simply copy that code from there, and paste into your post here. Click "Preview" or "Submit" and your picture will be visible in your post.

But, yeah I agree, for a total of $145, almost any guitar that feels and plays great is a good deal, and the deal was also a cheap lesson at that.

+1 on everything that's been said already. Sorry about that.
And, not to sound like a douchebag, but please use some punctuation next time. It makes it much easier to read a large block of text.

After viewing your pics, it is certainly not a Vintage guitar body...or anything else vintage for that matter. The big pick up route started only about 15 or so years ago, but certainly no longer ago than 1990 or so. It looks to be a Squire body and electronics with an american 22 fret neck...but pics of the headstock would help figure out a little more of what it is, since we now know what it isn't.
Sorry to be the continued bearer of bad news, but consider it a "Fender Life Lesson" and use the info to keep from repeating the mistake again....the old axiom "Fool Me Once, Your Fault, Fool Me Twice, My Fault"... holds true here.

FWIW
