i just got an American Select Stratocaster which has the american 2 point tremolo (as on the deluxe) the lsr roller nut and locking tuners (also as on deluxe) and have absolutly no problem hitting the whammy bar and staying in tune...

granted i only use it as a tremolo and only dive notes a few times but it dosent go out of tune, maybe try to upgrade to these parts instead?

You mean like a Floyd Rose?

Personally I wouldn't butcher a guitar to install one. Unless you have the cash.
Much easier to buy a Strat with it already installed.
A properly setup Stratocaster is surprisingly good at holding tune.

For great tuning you need to go over everything with a fine tooth comb. Taking it to a proper setup tech one that does nuts and fret leveling/crowning work in-house is a good way to get everything working.

To have the best tuning:
Tuners need to be good, have string locking tuners or strings wound on locking style, low gear ratio even better, preworn/lubed string trees, nut adjusted for size and shaved down to suit string diameter, good nut break edge with smooth fall back to the tuners.
Reasonably low action, preworn/lubed saddles, proper intonation, correct pivot stud or screw height, intonated, springs setup to suit player.

Neck relief and action to suit the players attack, bending and trem/whammy. Decent strings installed. Absolutely no string binding whenever the trem/whammy is used. Lastly pre-strech the strings well and kept retuning till they hold tune. Try tune up to pitch not down to pitch.

In my opinion a good tech can do all this. A bad one will say that all Fender trems cause tuning issues and the bridge needs to be set fixed.

But if you want fine tuners. A string locking nut (which basically removes half the tuning issues) and whammy bar so you can go crazy or something for metal then I say go for a Floyd or equiv hardware set.

Hi bosskidblues,

The best tuning stability for a guitar with a trem, will be achieved with a double-locking system. This means a locking tremolo and locking nut. If you don't also use a locking nut, you will have to settle for "as close as you can get" tuning stability with the six or two point bridge on a Strat, two point being better than the six. Something close to a locking nut, would be a roller nut and locking tuners. Using the locking trem alone would be a slight improvement over a standard Strat trem, as you would eliminate the string movement on the saddles while using the whammy bar.

If you only occasionally use the trem, I wouldn't change it to a double locking trem. It's too much of a hassle to change strings. But if you are trem happy, get an Original Floyd Rose (Made in Germany). Floyd Rose makes several versions of their trem now, and I've heard the newer (Made in Korea) trems aren't as good.

I got that Fender Locking Tremolo that was in the Deluxe Plus for my 08 Deluxe. I have the LSR and the Locking Tuners and its just about as good as the Floyd Rose. It fits in with no modification its Fender. The Super-Vee is also a no mod locking tremolo. I myself rip one up like Jimi Eddy and Dime. I use Dimarzios other than that stock Fender Locking Tremolos. They stopped makin them so they are harder to get on ebay now.

Actually Eric Johnson has his Dakota Red rosewood-neck Strat fitted with the Super V.

I've also seen an American Deluxe HSS with the N3s and the raw switch equipped with that bridge.

I don't think Fender is going to offer the Deluxe HSS with the new locking trem, though I guess they've already updated the EJ signature models to reflect the changes Eric made to his own guitars in 2010.

what is the "raw switch" reffering to?

I have also contemplated the Super V or the Bladerunner. However, some here have posted that if your vintage style tremolo is set up correctly and you install locking tuners you can get pretty close. I just installed a set of Fender/Ping locking tuners on one of my strats this weekend, so we'll see...Anyway, there are some good videos on Youtube of guys going crazy with the Super V's and Bladerunners that make it look like a very promising design for those who want a drop-in replacement. Good luck!
