My new American Deluxe Stratocaster has a nasty fret buzz. The dealer did a set up before I picked it up. I noticed it before I left the store and he raised the bridge a bit and re-intoned.

The neck is straight and measures .010 at the 8th with a capo and depressed 22nd. Just like it's supposed to. But I need to have the bass strings up around .120 to prevent the buzz. This is not using any attack or meathands, this is nice and easy with a light gauge pick.

Any suggestions before I bring it back?

I love this guitar and wish I bought an American Stratocaster 25-30 years ago. Who knew how much I limited my playing by not owning one. I still like my Telecaster, but I got a new lady in the house that is for lovin'! :P

Are you referring to neck relief or string height? It sounds like your using the two terms to mean the same thing.

.010 is where you want the neck relief to be. Height should be about 1/16 or .0625 on the bass side or roughly six times the relief.

Sounds like you currently have it set at about 1/8". As I eyeball my Am deluxe it appears to be about 1/8". I'm gonna get one of those setup guides from Stew-Mac and get more scientific concerning the setup.

I wanted to include neck relief, sorry I wasn't too clear.

Neck relief = .010
String Height is around .125 and still has a bit of a buzz.
String height recommended is as you said. I have also seen .078, as well. Both would make playing more enjoyable.

I didn't know if I should shim or maybe I might have a fret height problem. They seem to be the same height by eye. I will put a straight edge when I get a chance.

Perhaps something happening at the nut as well. I remember reading about a simple test for incorrect fret height this but I don't recall.
