Can anyone tell me if the rosewood and the maple models have the same neck shape? I know on the fender website it says soft V. But my friend has the maple whch I haven't played but he says it goes for a v then goes into a c around the 8th fret?

Similar to the jimmy ray vaughan model?

But just watch a video of eric showing his rosewood guitar off and he say it have the same neck profile as his 65 strat with rosewood board. Which will not of been a V shape

Hmmm... Thats a tough one!

If I'm not mistaken, that neck is advertised as a "soft V" but looking at it, it appears to be a wide "C" shape. It's only when I pick it up to play (And especially after playing one of my Squier 51's.) that I can feel the "V". The shape is consistent on mine up to maybe the tenth fret but the neck is so smooth and the shape change is so gradual, that it's hard to tell where the transitions are but thats a good thing!

I have a Brawley Attack that I really like but that one has a "flattened C" shape. When I compare the EJ neck to a Tele "C" the tele feels like 1/2 of a baseball bat, while the EJ is far softer and "V"er.

IMO, the SIGS are all different but it really comes down to feel and the only thing to do is to try some different Strats and see what you think!

PS: Considering how much Hot Rodding EJ did to his vintage Strats, I doubt seriously that these necks are what you would call "stock". Not with a 12" radius fingerboard anyway!

From what I remember, when the maple-board EJ was introduced they talked a lot about the neck shape starting as a "soft V" and rounding out to a large "C" as it went down the neck - the only difference between what I read and what the OP's friend says is that I'm remembering the article on the guitar saying that transition being more like the 10th to 12th fret. Of course with hand sanding that transition happening at the 8th fret is reasonable. The ones I have picked up do seem to have a transition from "V" to "C" as you work down the neck at some point.

I've never been able to play a rosewood board EJ (none of the local dealers have had one in stock when I've been in the stores) but supposedly the neck shape is the same as the maple board EJ.

thank you for you help. I have in my arms the rosewood model!

I was lucky to borrow of a friend for a week to see how i get on with it.

I love the neck! Really fits well in the hand.

The pickups are very eric johnson obviously! So they are smooth sounding to my ears and have slightly more treble.

great quality guitar not sure about the colour though. Turquoise. The other colours aren't really my thing either.

Why did he not go for safe colours like the maple neck? I think he would sell more guitars that way
