I'm in talks of buying a Fender hss stratocaster American deluxe from 2004 made for fender's 50th anniversary
The guy that sells the guitar is asking 1700$
First of all I want to know is this guitar consider a good guitar?
And is the price is the right price?

Thanks!

I can't open the link but in UK a used american deluxe strat is around $1250-$1300, you will pay a bit more if it is the limited edition with the anniversary neck plate and gold fittings.

Hi Razsharaby,

Same here, can't open link in either of two different browsers, even when accepting cookies. Could you post a picture or two? I believe that all of the American models, and some (all?) of the Mexican models had the Anniversary "badge" or "sticker" on the back of the headstock for 2004, but fewer of the special "Anniversary Model" were made, there would be a big price difference between these two types.

That looks like a regular American Deluxe HSS for 2004 (if it has the sticker on the back of the headstock). It's possible that these will be worth a little more in the future than a 2003 or 2005 model would, but hard to know really how much that sticker is worth to someone. But it doesn't appear to be a special "Anniversary Model", which would be worth more. This one will still probably be worth more in the future simply because it's American made, but maybe not because it's a 2004 model, unless that particular color was only available that year.

$1700 seems too high for the US when you can get a brand new model for less, but over there I don't know what they might go for. :?:

The pic I put is not the guitar I'm buying Its just a regular hss guitar
I don't have a pic of the guitar I'm buying but it is a special anniversary edition
And from what I seen on the Internet it's pretty rare

Might as well get a used 'production' American Deluxe for a lot cheaper. The 50th Anniversary strikes me as a gimmick. If one were a serious collector then I could see how it might be considered more valuable, but in my eyes you're getting a good player with any American Deluxe strat.

Just saw this article on eBay that says that genuine 50 anniversary guitar can't be hss and can only come with 3 single coils
Does anyone know if it's true?

Thanks!

This is the "50th Anniversary" special model. All other Strats made that year have the sticker on the back of the headstock, and are simply regular models. Many people will call every guitar made that year a "50th Anniversary" model, when in fact most were only made on the 50th Anniversary. AFAIK, there were no HSS 50th Anniversary Model Strats made (just the regular model HSS with sticker).

The information in that UK review is correct. Most US strats made in or around 2004 carry a 50th anniversary neckplate but are not anniversary models. Just like most US strats made in 2006 carry a 60th badge on the headstock but there were only a few true 60th anni models. It is the source of much confusion.
The 50th Deluxe is a great guitar!

Thanks!

I've decided not to buy the "anniversary" hss
Now I'm wondering if I should buy the real anniversary deluxe model
Or is it just a gimmick?
Does anyone have any clue?

I've tried the anni deluxe and the "standard" deluxe from that year.
There are some nice features on the anni e.g. the tweed case two tone sb but you will find the gold finish will wear.
For some reason the anniversary had a mellower tone but there is not much in it.

Thanks everyone for all the help!
I know it's a tricky quastion but I'll ask it anyway (;
I have a budget of about 2500$ and I wonder if I should buy the anniversary model for about 1400 on eBay or should I go all out and buy a used custom shop fender with all of my budget
Is a 2500$ custom fender is a good guitar or is too cheap for a custom?
And is really So much better than the 50 anniversary?
