Are you looking for vids of him using either the SRV sig, or his stock sig? You're probably better off playing both of them yourself and judging from that, simply for the fact that I'm not sure how much video there is of him playing his stock "off the shelf" signature model.

If you watch some vids maybe from 04 (?) you could probably find him playing his SRV. But most recent vids will be of him playing his masterbuilt, in terms of his own guitars.

Instead of having the big SRV on the pickguard, he just swapped with a turtoise shell or something. If you look on the back of the headstock, you can see a small circle, usually Fender puts those on special editions. But, it is an SRV...look at the gold tremelo

This is a good solo when he was tricking everybody making them think he was a "pop" type guy....when I saw this I knew he could play.

That's his SRV

His SRV at that time had the tortoise shell pickguard swapped in instead of the SRV pickguard. But you can still see the gold hardware and flipped trem.

The John Mayer sounds like I wanted my SRV to sound. The JM to me has a better feel than the SRV but only by the narrowest margin. I agree with some of the previous posts that the JM looks better. That "SRV" on the front has got to go. Given the choice of a JM or an SRV I would choose the John Mayer.

And you think that's the guitar????? What gives the player his sound is his chops. The guitar and what supports it is the vehicle. I hope Mayer wants to sound like Mayer, and not his influences. There are scores of good players out there who can reproduce that sound. Several of whom are major artists who will go un-named at this writing.

As I've said before, find your own lost chord.

Both are great guitars but the problem I have with the SRV (other than the pg) is that it looks TOO nice. When Stevie was playing #1 is was so worn, so beat and so tattered, it just oozed mojo! The signature model looks too pretty to me (but it still is sweet).

The JM Strat is fab - I was demoing the new mica one the other day and what I noticed is that the neck is not as fat as some people say. I expected a baseball bat but it was very comfortable.

Both great, I would choose the JM over the SRV.

Just my $.02

For a bit more than two cents you can look for a collector who's selling his/her SRV Tribute guitar. It was priced at $12K when first offered but I doubt we'll ever see it at that number again.

Don't like the pickguard...swap it out.

Just in case you haven't caught up to me, my CS "guitar heroes Strat" is a Clapton, finished like an SRV, the hardware is gold vintage, the bridge is vintage but not reversed, the frets are medium jumbo, the fretboard is rosewood, it's powered by SCN's and active electronics, and all the plastic parts are black...my nod to Buddy Guy.

The Custom Shop is Fender's verson of ........'have it your way".

Projects can either be Team-Built or Master-built; the former is a group effort, the latter gets the attention of one luthier. My guitar was team built and, at the time of the order ( 2years ago) we were around 3K for the project as described. 5K is likely to be a rough starting point for a Masterbuilt project.

There was, in another discussion, a URL posted which gave access to information specific to what design requests required a Masterbuilt project.

In any event, the starting point is a dealer who is certified to handle CS project orders. You design the project, they submit it, the shop will advise them as to what the cost of the project will be.
