I currently changed my main strats wiring; it has a regular 5way blade, and a DPDT mini-toggle that was alwasy used for NECK/BRIDGE, or NECK/MIDDLE/Bridge.
I decided I wanted to change it to series/parallel, remembering some of the usefull humbucker like tones I got out of an American Delxue. FIrst off, i wish i could have just wired it so that positions 2 and 4 are in series, instead of having them the way they are now; normal 1-5, then with switch engageged; N=neck/middle in series, positions 2,3 and 4 are just middle, then 5(or is it 1 for the bridge, i can never remember) is middle/bridge in series. I dont really use the in between parallel anyay, so being able to put them in 2 adn 4 in series would be perfect, then i could use the mini toggle to either keep it as a bridge pickup switch, or in/out of phase.
I need to find out how to activate the second cap in the in series positions. They still sound in parallel, just louder, the Am Dlx sounded close to a humbucker. I dont know if its the special cap, or if they had a way to change the phasing. I know humbuckers are in series/out of phase. Strat single coils are in parallel, in phase. Im wondering if right now, when i put them in series, if theyre still in phase. If so, this is probably the reason they still sound in parallel.

I do like how it works on some Floyd songs though. Neck/Middle in series sounds dead on with my amp and setup for the guitar intro for Shine On you crazy diamond.

Im also tryig to mess with pickup heights so when in series, they sound best. Im thinkin of raising the neck and bridge pickup ( I use Area 58-61's that have a real low pull), and dropping the middle pickup. That's hwo I used to have it. So i could have the neck or bridge push the amp, then go to midddle for clean playing.

I'll tell you, having that high/low cut filter for the tone knob that controls the bridge pickup is great. The first time i rewired it, I messed up and the bridge tone knob didnt work, the middle picku sounded like the tone knob was rolled all off. The second attemp got it so now the neck pickup works on the middle, and the bridge knob works on the nekc/bridge. While i had it like that, i liked how the greasebucket homebrew I made affected the neck pikcup.
Strange thing now. the tone knob for the middle/bridge pickup works as it should; the neck pickup doesnt affect the middle pickup at all, until i turn on the series swith, then both the tone knobs affect the middle pickup. Its interesting to see the differences in tone circuits when you can use 2 different ones, one thats just like a normal tone knob, and the other one with the jigh/low cut filter, which works almost like a light compressor, but only ona few frequencies. Its best to sue one of these on a hot briidge pickup, or theres too muc volume drop.
