Don't know anything about Strats so can anyone tell me how to know if a strat is a standard strat,deluxe strat or whatever kind it is and how does that effect the value of the guitar? I purchased a 98 American made strat but when asked if it is a specific kind of strat I have no idea. How do you tell the difference??

Its serial number can tell you everything. If you google it, I'm sure there's a bunch of resources to decode Strat serials. Sorry but I can't give you much more help than that.

The Deluxe serial # starts with a D and standard USA strat would start with N8 for 98

Deluxe has abalone dot inlays and S-1 switching system. Standard American has 22 frets, micro tilt adjustment on neck plate, and long boxy looking saddles. New American is almost the same, but more vintage style saddles. Mexican made strats have a 42 mm nut, American strats are wider with about a 43.5mm(?) nut. Measurement is from the slots from high to low e strings.
