Hello
I just puchased a 2006 Fender MIM Fat Strat standard.
Can anyone verify what pups came in it??
Just had those removed and Bill Lawrence L200's put in which sound great but on my
'65 twin reverb reissue, and Cyber Deluxe there is a high pitched sound which sounds alot like a cricket.
i can get it to stop by turning the tone knobs down, which knob depends on which position it's in.
Any ideas would be helpful.
it did not make this noise when they were installed.
Thanks
Mike

did you change anything in the setup (string height, truss rod, etc.)? could be a bit of fret buzz

Hi Mike & Welcome!

The stock pickups in a MIM HSS strat will be made by Fender. I think they use ceramic magnets but a more qualified forum user will have to confirm that.

Regarding your noise issue... I'd recommend double checking your wiring to make sure there are no loose or missing ground wires.

Hope this helps

Andy

Could be a burned volume pot (soldering).
Take the pot out of the circuit for a short test.

Cheers,
Robin

I think you're barking up the wrong tree, I think its the amp. IM not familiar with the cyber amps, or if they use tubes, tubes have a tendency to go faster on hybrid amps for some reason. Its probably not the preamp tube(again if they have them) they tend to go through power amp tubes. Just to be sure, tap on the preamp tube with a pencil eraser, if it gets squealy, then its gone microphonic, and needs to go. Its more likely to be the power tubes, they'll maker that noise. If you have another amp that has the same tubes, try swapping them out. If the sound goes away, you know its because of faulty tubes.

Let me know if it works. Id start with swapping power amp tubes, maybe one by one, because tubes dont all go at the same time, and you may get lucky and find it early.

wind walker maybe i didn't explain i own a fender 65 twin reissue as well as the cyber deluxe.
it makes the noise on both.
i can almost hush it with the noise gate on the cyber.
but it kills the tail end on my notes

Okay, I thought it was only on one amp. Besides the high pitched sound, do they sound okay? In wondering if they were wired in phase, instead of out of phase like they should. Are these pickups noiseless? If so, do they have 3 or 4 conductor wiring? Could be one or more had the dummy coils wired instead if the actual hot wire.

I don't think its a setup issue, it wouldn't do this to the guitar.v plus, most setups don't include wiring unless there's already a problem. Setups are mostly to make it playable, stable, and to address intonation, issues.

Checking wiring and setup of the pickups first. Does the noise go away when you are in the 2nd and 4th positions? That could very well be the joyous sound of single coil pickups

Ummm... Nope!

They shouldn't be wired out of phase. Its pretty much the weakest sounding pickup combo going. The BL L200 should be wired in Parallel and in Phase like most strats (unless a custom phase switching has been installed) .

The OP's noise issue occurred after a period of time in which the guitar worked as expected. I reckon a wire has come loose and its a grounding issue.

Welcome.

Based on your description, your guitar's capacitor is discharging. Change it and your problem should disappear.

Ah ha!

That would explain why the noise disappears when either tone control is rolled off.

I'm kicking myself for not spotting that!

I'm sure Martians post is spot on, as I'm not that experienced
But if it still makes that noise, could also be pickup heights,
And what your hearing are wolf tones.
I may be wrong and completely off.

Give yourself some credit, Andy! You immediately picked it off as an intermittent grounding problem within the guitar which by virtue of the cap bleeding out, it most certainly is!!
