Hi new member and first post here,

When I'm playing my Strat I get a horrendous buzzing noise through my amp which is amplified to a deafening level if overdrive is used. It's to the point where the buzzing drowns out any noise from the guitar. It gets worse when I touch any metal parts - strings, tuning pegs, bridge - but it kind of dampens down when I touch the jack!?!?

Any suggestions on what may help are appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like a static issue,
Try a antistatic cloth like a downy sheet rub it all over the
Guitar pickguard , neck and body.
My hr57 strat was doing that, and buzzing.
I copper taped the cavity and used a copper pg shield,
And ran a ground from the pot down to the copper tape.
I also checked for continuity using a multimeter with a
Continuity feature.
That took care of my issue, buzzing gone and static about
90% gone. But from static all the time to alittle and every
Now and then.
I've noticed very few American standards have this issue

You have ground missing in your guitar.
Try to replace the wire between guitar an amp as howardken52 suggest.

If you have the same problem with new wire, there is a ground deffective inside your guitar.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll get a new cable today (and some anti-static cloths) and see if theres any difference.

If the problem persists I'll post again later on today. If it is a dodgy ground would I need to replace the actual ground wire or just clean up and re-solder the connections?

Thanks.

+1
Check the the ground that goes to the spring claw first. I have a 12" piece of wire I use for these problems. I can touch one end to a common ground, then one by one, I touch the other end to every metal part that's wired up. When I finally touch a part that makes the static go away, I know I found the bad ground.

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere in in the guitar. Has the ground to the tremolo or to one of the pickups become lose or broken?

Thanks folks, I'll be home in a couple of hours so will test it then and let you know.

@windwalker9649 - Thanks for that suggestion, I'll definitely be trying that to test the ground.
