Hope this is the right place to post this...

I was just wondering what pickups these guys use in their Strats, since I absolutely love their tone!

My all-time no.1:
Ritchie Blackmore (link to video)
Here he's using Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders, earlier in the 70s he used stock pickups, and since the 90s Gold Lace Sensors.

But here's a recent photo,
Imagewhere the guitar has pole-pieces, so it can't be the Lace Sensors. Maybe he's back to the Quarter Pounders? What is even more odd, is that there is his singature on the headstock! You can't see it on the photo here, but I have that magazine, and the signature looks very factory made and very very much like on his Signature Strats. But, I haven't heard anything about a Sunburst Ritchie Blackmore Signature Strat, and can't find anything on the internet... I'm dying know more about his...

My other favorite Strat-sounds are those of Doug Aldrich (link to video) and Gary Moore (link to video). Doug has a lot of stuff going on with Suhr (they're making an amp for him, and he's got Signature Suhr LP humbuckers). About Gary Moore's Strat I don't know a thing.

Anybody some more info on this? Thanks a lot! :)

not too up on my ritchie blackmore guitars and such, but from wikipedia:

Blackmore has experimented with many different pickups in his Strats. In the early Rainbow era they were still stock Fenders, later Dawk installed overwound, dipped, Fender pickups. He has also used Schechter F-500-Ts, Velvet Hammer "Red Rhodes", DiMarzio "HS-2", OBL "Black Label", Bill Lawrence L-450, XL-250 (bridge), L-250 (neck) and since the late 80s he has used Lace Sensor (Gold) "noiseless" pickups.

as for the sig guitar, i'm pretty sure fender has never made a burst signature model... the custom shop only does the white one

but as far as tone is concerned, you will get a majority from the amp and effects.... while pickups will alter tone, it wont make as big of a difference as a good amp set to the proper settings... thats just my view anyways

hope that helped, as for the other two, i may look later if i get a chance

A couple possibilities: 1) It wouldn't have been much trouble at all to put a Signature model neck onto a sunburst body. 2) Fender just might have made him a special sunburst one if he asked nicely

Thanks guys! :)

As for the signature: Yes, I've seen or heard of a Sunburst Signature model. And it would be very possible he just put a signature neck on a sunburst Strat, or ordered it from Fender. But why would he want an official signature on his neck? I made a photo out of the magazine (Burrn! #3 '06):

And off course the pickups alter a small percentage off your tone. Amp, effects, cables, guitar, wood, fingers, picking technique... But still the pickups have some effect... ;)

And as a Blackmore fan, I just want to know as much as possible. And I didn't know anything about this sunburst guitar, I found the signature very odd, and the pickups since he uses the Lace Sensors for a long time now. But maybe it's just for the picture, or to make people like me go crazy... :P

And about Aldrich and Gary Moore. I love their tone (also with their Les Pauls). I know Doug has mostly vintage guitars, he uses mostly Fulltone effects, and that thing with Suhr. About Gary Moore I don't know a thing except his Soldano SLO100 amp and some Marshalls...

More info about the Blackmore Sunburst Signature... :)

Candice Night (his wife) gave the guitar as a birthday present. It's made of Japanese stocks. Basically a '72-reissue in Sunburst with USA Vintage Pickups and a Signature neck attached. But Blackmore isn't playing much with it, just miming on some German TV-shows, and he uses it on some photshoots.

:D

No info on the Aldrich or Gary Moore pickups by the way?

I was reading " Riding Shotgun" , an account of 35 years touring by Rory Gallagher's bass player Gerry McAvoy. In the 70's, Gallagher and Deep Purple toured quite a bit together and stayed at the same hotels. Deep Purple's roadies had a reputation for drinking and partying which was well deserved. Anyway, one day all the band members are hanging out around a pool, taking it easy and enjoying the day. Their roadies were enjoying adult beverages to an extreme  and threw a piano in the pool and started throwing the band members themselves in. They came up to Ritchie Blackmore who was with his beautiful German girlfriend  and she told him " Don't verry Reechie.... they have to much respect for you " RIGHT !!!!! They threw him in the pool too and lo and behold..... :) ........ Mr. Blackmore's toupee came off !!!! Talk about smoke on the water !!!!!!!!
