hi everyone. i was reading another thread on here comparing the mim strats to the mia ones. a couple people mentioned that a major difference was in the quality of the pu's used. this got me thinking about my guitar, i have the mim 60th anniversay model with the tex mex pu's in it. i know these were from the jimmy vaughn strat, and that they're sold as an upgrade, but how do they compare to the stock pu's in a mia strat? are the tex mex better? or is the stock mia pu's still the better product??

tex mexs are nice pups.... they are better suited for a slightly different style than the stock pups in a MIA, but i personally don't see a major difference.... you should be quite fine with the tex mexs if you were debating an upgrade

i guess i'm trying to justify the extra cost of the anniversay model compared to the mim hss i was also considering. i do like the yellow color of my neck much better than the other mim i was looking at, the maple neck on that one was much whiter

The Delta Tone (DT) Strat pickups are more powerful and glassier sounding than the Tex-Mex (TM). The bottom is a tad tighter. The DTs are also calibrated for their position in the guitar with the middle pickup being reverse wound/reverse polarity (RW/RP) so that when used with either the neck or bridge pickup, the two will become humbucking to a large degree.

The TMs are not calibrated for their position nor is the middle pickup RW/RP. There sound is a bit slinkier but that's not to say that they are top light nor midrange heavy like the Texas Specials. The bass is tight but not as brisk as the DTs.

Either set will do a fine job in the guitar they are in as both are reasonably versatile. You simply adjust accordingly to your needs unless of course, you are looking for a really specific Strat sound which, per your stylings/equipment, neither set covers.

They've got the Texas Specials in the Roadhouse and the Lonestar, but they're putting TexMex in the American Standard HSS? Texas Specials are American made. Are TexMex American made? I think a lot of the debate about what country the pickups come from doesn't make too much sense and I don't care at all that my Highway One pickups are from Baja.

No, hence the name. They are wound and assembled in Mexico.

Too many people are stigmatizing this whole MIM thing. The workmanship of the Mexican made stuff is indeed, excellent. As a matter of fact, if Fender never disclosed that some of their stuff is being produced in Mexico, the vast majority wouldn't be any the wiser and there wouldn't be so many underserved FMIC quality control bashings as some people insist on doing.

The TS middle is, not the TM.

Hey superdanxlr8 do you have a digital multimeter to take some measurements of those Tex Mex pickups? If we knew the DC resistance, we could compare it to other Fender pickups.

yikes. i dont even know what that is. but, i did download the accesory catalog off this very website, and found the tex mex pu's about half way down the scroll bar. fender says that the middle pu is indeed rw/rp. which makes sense because there is zero hum in positions 2+4. it also stated a retail price of 109 bucks, which is way more than the difference in price i paid for the anniversary model, so i guess i can sleep well at night knowing i got a good deal. are the stock mia pu's rw/rp??

Yes, the "delta tone" system in the American Series/Standard have a RWRP middle pickup. So do the Mexican Standard strats.
