I just came upon my 1st year birthday for my 2007 Am Delux Strat. I love it. It is my first real electric guitar, as I have been playing accoustic for the past 10 years. I play through a G-DEC and also have a PODX3. I plqy mostly blues and some country. I have found that I dont really use many effects other than a little reverb and a tiny bit of overdrive. I have come to the conclusion that too many effects distract from the beautiful sound of a strat. I know that people who play metal will prefer other settings..but does anyone else here agree? What effects do you think work really well with a strat..i also enjoy a bit of tape delay too.my approach is that a tiny bit of effect adds spice..too much spoils the broth.

I agree with you for the most part, but its all personal taste. I play a lot blues myself and mainly use reverb, overdrive, wah-wah. some delay maybe some flanger...hmmm maybe I use more then I thought lol... just kidding.

I think that its all about how they are combined and used. I think that they all have a time and place in music.

i agree for the most part... ill use a bit of distortion and reverb based on the amp, but other than that, I may only use a wah or a whammy pedal on certain songs

Agree with everything so far, i love the combination of delay and a uni-vibe, great for trippy experimental rock :D

The Univibe rules! I think Robin Trower sleeps with one.

A lot of those effects on a strat do sound better clean though....tremolo, delay, (I actually like delay over reverb) and of course, wah.

And, then there's an acoustic emulator which comes in handy at times...

i agree with all of you, with the addition of a good rotary tone thrown in for good measure--lots of great blues sounds there as well, but as said before, don't overdo any of the effects. the strat sounds sweet on its own.

I play blues, rock and starting to kick in a little Bakersfield style country. I use a Boss GT-6 because I can dial in a variety of effects combos at the kick of a button - from classic Humble Pie (with the humbucker in my Fat Strat) and Captain Beyond crunch to pure clean. I use distortion, wah, digital delay, rotory, reverb, tremelo, flanger & phase shift all to varying degrees. I've played around with uni-vibe I love the sound, but it doesn't fit my style very well - yet!

I find that the effects open up a wide variety of creativity. BUT like with anything in life you can have too much of a good thing. It's easy to get carried away.

I'm a tone freak myself I like to keep things simple too but I also I like a good amount of flexability in what I can do. My rig consists of:

Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer
Boss DS1 and DS2 Distortion
Electro Harmonix Big Muff
Electro Harmonix Tube Zipper
Dunlop Crybaby Wah
MXR Phase 90 Phaser
Electro Harmonix Q-Tron Envelope Filer
Digitech Whammy
Boss CE2 Chorus

Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue
Fender Twin Reverb
Fender Super Champ XD
Marshall Vintage Modern 2466

With this rig I can capture a wide range of tones and can get a pretty decent range of textures.

the ones i use with mine are mostly flangers, reverb, chorus, fuzz, crunch, wah and distortion. They all work great. the strat is the most universal instrument.

I'd like to know what Buddy Guy is using on his "Sweet Tea" album... That sound makes me weak!

For me it really boils down to the music that I am playing. I love stomp boxes because you can choose to use them or not. For soulful blues I like to set my pickup selector to position two, a little bit of gain for edge with the guitar volume set low and spring reverb for ambience during rhythm. For lead breaks I just crank the volume up on my Strat and select the bridge pup for more crunch. I also enjoy jazz and fusion. In those cases I often use a flanger, phaser or rotovibe. I like to switch effect between phrases for more interpretations rather than stacking a lot of effects on top of another.

I agree for the most part. I have a Fender Princeton Chorus amp. I also have a Digitech RP 150, plus a few more pedals, not many, but a few. I love the sound from the Princeton amp by itself with a little chorus, but with the RP 150, I can get a sound that is as close as I can get to a true tube amp sound. I play my strats through that a lot. If I want crunchy, I turn on the distortion side of my amp. I also have a chorus in the amp to, so what more do you need? I so have a few other distortion pedals, a flanger, and a Voodoo Lab boost pedal. But there is really not much else that is needed. Strats are amazing!

TS-9 tube screamer
TR-2 trem pedal
Vox Wah when I feel the need
maybe some reverb from the amp (Blues Jr.)

If you want to fatten it up a bit more, middle position and hit the S-1 switch.

That's all the help I think it needs.

I play Strats and Teles. My only pedals are a Boss Deluxe Reverb Pedal and a vintage Tube Screamer. For my "loud" pedal, I use a pickup booster, so the tone isn't effected, just the volume. I used to use a Mesa Boogie V-Twin. An awesome pedal.
