Hey all...having a problem with my 5-way switch on my lite ash strat. My signal totally will cut out while playing, and if I wiggle the switch it will come back. I replaced the import switch with a brand new USA type fender switch. the problem is still there. I checked all my wiring, could it me another component?

Have you checked the output jack?

Inspect it to ensure that a plug's tip is correctly engaging the contact and maintaining continuity.

Yes all checks out ok, tried several different cords to...same thing. Will be playing along fine and WHAM! signal gone, wiggle the 5-way and its back. Just finding it hard to believe 2 switches are bad, gotta be more to it.

How about the ground wire to your trem claw -- have you checked that it's still securely soldered in place?

I agree......two bogus switches in a row is somewhat unusual. Still, it's been known to happen.

Yeah checked all the wiring, everything is solid, no unusual humming or buzing, just cuts out. Guess I can try another 5-way, cheap enough to rule it out once and for all, and if not, I'll have an extra. Thanks Arjay!

Check that you have good solid grounds soldered at the rear of your pots. Reheat and reflow as necessary.

Best of luck

Could it be any pedals you have? because i had the same problem once-it was my wah i think. A quick fiddle with the order and settings(I had only just got the wah, didn't really know what I was doing...) and it was fixed. I also sometimes have that problem with a particular amp-it just drops out. Not my guitar or lead. it was a little marshall MG something.

Welcome.

Check that the terminals and/or unshielded wires on the bottom of your switch are not coming into contact with the guitar's body. See, the guitar's body has a coat of shielding paint and if the terminals and/or wires touch the paint even ever so slightly, this will cause shorting.

Good tip Martian! Never thought about that one... Hopefully, that's this fella's problem.

Thank you. It is a more common problem than most realize, this and the tip of the plugged in cable touching the wood.
