I bought a american deluxe strat recently new from fender dealer. After I got it home I ran the numbers and it is an '04. After I got it home and played it a bit I started to peel the fender bullets recommendation sticker off the back when I noticed that it had a 50th aniv. neck plate. I got black Fender hardshell case along with all the extras that Fender throws in. Should I have recieved the 50th aniv. tweed case instead/along the the hardshell? What ways are there to make sure that it is a legit 50th(if there are frauds) Please give me some guidance before I go back to the dealer and claim the possible missing item. thanks

Ian

It seems to be a 50th anniv. model.
The stratocaster came out in 1954, so it's 50th anniversary was in 2004 (which is when you guitar was made), so that leads me to believe that the case is not original.

The Am Deluxe 50th commemorative had gold hardware and came with a tweed case.

However, I don't think that every Am Delux sold in 2004 was a 50th commemorative guitar, they were a limited edition if I remember right.

In my opinion that is a 2004 American Deluxe model but not the 50th Anniversary model that is pictured in this thread. The 2004 models all had a 50th neckplate but were not the actual anniversary models. You still have a great guitar.

There were only 2,500 of these made. I am the proud owner of one.

That model isn't supposed to have one of those cases. It's just a model made in 2004, not a commemorative model, so you've got the right case.

Hey Grovertunes I have one of these as well. Were there really only 2500 made? I thought that was the number made of the much more expensive Custom Shop models that look similar to ours?

That's what I was told by the sales rep at the music store. I told him it didn't really matter to me. I was buying the guitar regardless. LOL! I am one of those guys that it doesn't matter if it's a limited edition, one off or anything like that. If I like it, I like it ya know?
Maybe one of the Fender Forum guys can give us the low down.

thanks for the help. i got it sorted out now. either way the guitar plays and sounds amazing. i can't wait to get it all set up so i can make her really sing. i swear it called to me when i walked in the door and scanned the walls of the shop. my eye hit it and stopped. i gave the others a chance to speak up but they weren't convincing. thanks again

They put the 50th neck plate on nearly every strat made in 2004

then they made a CS Limited edition, a Deluxe limited to 2004 and an AMSE limited to 2004.

the "limited editions" had two tone burst, maple boards, single ply parchment pick gaurds and special tweed cases with 50th patches in them.

I bought the deluxe and the AMSE and have kept the AMSE with its 54 CS PUPs ( aspecial run just for this guitar ) as it was the finest Strat I have ever owned.

The deluxe was great just didnt fit my style.
