So by the end of the week I should have my neck pickup for my strat and will go to have it put it in (to have a complete set of vintage noiseless). I've been kicking around the idea of doing something different with the pick guard on it (it has the standard 3 ply white/black/white).

Since the pickup covers are the aged white, my first instinct was to go with that. But then I saw the tortoise shell colored one and thought that might look kind of cool with the aged white pickup covers.

My question is this: does anyone on here have in their arsenal of guitars anything that looks remotely like what I am wanting to do? Or what do you think about these 2 options?

Here's aged white goodies on a tortoise shell pickguard......

Of course the tortoise shell only works with certain body colors.

That looks great on the white body...I think tortoise shell looks pretty sweet on sunburst as well...and would look nice on black too I reckon. I have seen it on CAR and that's not really my favorite but I suppose it's all a matter of taste. Sadly. the strat pictured below is no longer with me :(

I have a Roadhouse Strat in Alpine white, the vintage/aged covers don't look right on it. If it was a darker color, it would look pretty cool, but two shades of white isn't so great.

My strat is a black with maple neck (MIM). Since i'm fairly certain that guitar center has both in stock, i'll just hold it up and try to visualize it. I think i'm leaning towards the tortoise shell one.

Thank you to all who have responded! :-)

You want my cosmetic opinion?

More eye shadow, less blush.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

It's actually an L6-S, not an LP. They were made from the early/mid-70's to 1980 or so. Unlike an LP, it's a solid maple body (instead of a maple capped mahogany body) and they were available with either RW (or ebony?) or maple necks... there were a few different models but this one is an example of the first ones to come out. They have Bill Lawrence designed humbuckers and a 6-way varitone control. Given the fact that it's all maple, it much more bright sounding than an LP but does have some serious beef with the humbuckers. The
6-way is capable of some single coil tones too...almost tele-like.

It's a pretty sweet axe but honestly I don't play it as much as my other guitars anymore... it was my first "nice" electric guitar and has a lot of sentimental value. It was the guitar I gigged with for years when I was still playing in bands and it's just one of those things I'd never part with. (Unlike the strat that's pictured which is long gone... though I miss it.)

Those L-6's are some good guitars- they are worth a ton now too.
