Another excuse to post pics of my gold-clad Mexican :)

Whenever the subject of bridge covers is raised, the issue of palm muting always comes up.
I have not had any formal guitar training, but I am certainly no beginner. I have never had any problems while playing with the cover on.
I am not exactly sure what is meant by palm muting but I am interested if someone would care to explain.
Thanks .....Mark.

Palm muting is using the palm of your strumming/picking hand to slighty mute the strings when your playing the guitar. It prevents unwanted notes or strings from ringing and cuts out the sustain on notes when you are playing a solo. Its an essential techique when playing rock, blues, or just about any genre. You're probably doing it and don't even know it.

Yes thanks DetroitBlues, that's what I thought and yes, I do this without thinking about it.
I guess I just don't strum and pick as close to the bridge as most players.

I like the idea that the cover will increase sustain although I can't say I've noticed.
I just like the look of them. I sometimes take it off as i also like the look of a nice vintage style tremolo.

One more pic before I go away.

Thanks .....Mark.

My Strat has a six-screw vintage-style bridge, so it would probably take one of those ashtrays. However, the guitar didn't come with one at all. Where can I get one?? Anybody know?

I got mine on e-bay. Genuine Fender, it was sealed in it's original packaging. Cost less than $10.

That is gorgeous!
Ever since seeing Stevie and Jimmie with their Charley Wirtz lipstick-clad axes and Charlie Sexton (with the Arc Angels in the early 90s), I have always wanted a Strat with lipstick pups...I never thought about a lipstick humbucker...hmmm....
