I recently bought a mexican standard strat hss in black. I am considering upgrading the pickups. Any suggestions? What pickups are used on the american strat vs the mexican strat? Also, is there a kit to replace the white pickguard and knobs with black?

One of the many cool aspects of the Fender guitars is that they are modular. You can get aftermarket replacement parts for virtually anything.

Pickguards, knobs, tuners, etc. I like the suggestion another poster on this forum had. He suggested that you visit your local dealer and try out a bunch of strats. Be sure to take note of the pickups in the ones you like and get one of these sets for your strat.

Depending on the sound you're after, check out Fender and Seymore Duncan. Some of the SDs look really cool to me!

The only downside is that a lot of the Fender pickups aren't available separately; for example, the "Delta Tone" pickups that are in the American Standard strat.

You could probably find them on ebay, however, if you can believe the sellers' descriptions.

Those MIM pickups are on the hot side. Try to lower them a lot and see how you like their sound.

Thanks for the suggestions. Since I am a newer guitar player and have only played a Martin DX-1 accoustic and never have owned an electric, I am just learning about the pickups and their sound distintions. I have the hss version and can clearly hear a difference in the full, more muddled sound of the bridge humbucker. Frankly, tho I am too inexperieced to discern much of a difference in the mid and neck pickups. I have been concerned that this is a function of a lower quality set of single pickup put in the MIM stat.
