i love guitars with thick necks but have yet to come across a fender with a thick neck. its a shame as i like the fender sound. so are there some out there?

The neck on the Baja Tele is pretty chunky... Might try one and see what you think.

They certainly do make thick necks like that, though few. The Jeff Beck, and the neck from the John Mayer (though im not impressed with the rest of that guitar) use thick necks. The Jeff beck one is like a baseball bat sawed in half.

If you're looking for just a neck, Warmoth make a real beafy neck, and if ordered in the right combo of features, are better IMO to some Fenders.

I wouldn't say that Nevin, the neck on my '78 is one of the biggest necks I've ever seen on a Fender. Easily bigger then a Gibson, even the neck on my SRV feels small compared to it. I think the necks on the Vintage Hot Rods is close.

The Allparts TRO-FAT neck is an inch thick from end to end... it's fantastic if you like a big neck... I know it's a "licensed by Fender" neck but you could always slap one on an MIM or something else... MJT often has aged/relic nitro examples on Ebay though I scored a NOS nitro finish neck of his on ebay for around $220 bucks (granted it was for a tele, not a strat). I have a Warmoth Neck on one strat and an Allparts on the other. I really prefer the Allparts though they're different necks altogether so it's not fair to compare...both are excellent quality... the Allparts is as nice as any strat I've played genuine Fender or otherwise.

Mark @ MJT also offers kits where you choose the neck and body (or you can get a kit with hardware too)...they don't have to be relic'd, you could opt for a NOS or closet clean finish... I think they're a great deal for a nitro finished guitar. He's awesome to work with and you can choose just about any color in the Fender rainbow.

The 70's RI's have bigger necks but I'm not such a huge fan of the vintage sized frets...

I can't compare much, but my 72 tele deluxe reissue has a pretty thick neck.

I know that the old Jeff Beck Strats used to have a pretty big neck. You can also goto Allparts or Warmoth and get just what you want.

my hr 62 has about the same or thicker than the gibson traditional plus which had a beefy neck.

You won't find a nut width the same as a Gibson. However with flatter radiuses and a U(Boat), thick C, or V profile might fit you better. Now my other guitar has a 60's neck profile which is more like a modern C profile of a Fender.
