So if I have a VG strat and I'm out of tune in the normal "N" mode, I can simply switch to the "S" modeled mode and I'll be perfectly in tune? How cool is that.

Although the VG strat is an American strat in the truest sense of the word, it appears that it will not get the update that the entire line of American instruments are getting from Fender for '08? ...... seems a shame.

So does anyone own one of these babys?

that post had nothing to do with the thread, and you're getting very close to spam

i played a VG and i enjoyed it, but you're right, the new american standard touches to some of the VG's neck and such would be interesting to see how it would play

Wow, I'd hate to have to read what you'd consider real spam!

I have a VG, Strataholic, and I think its just the coolest thing Fender has come up with since ... Well ... Since the Strat.

But it doesn't tune itself. Its not like the self tuning Gibson. If the strings are out of tune in Normal (N) mode and you switch it to T for Tele, you now have an out of tune Tele. Even the Tuning modes, which are located on a separate dial, do not tune the guitar for you. The guitar converts the signals to midi then alters the tuning, so in Drop D (D) the low E string is dropped a full step usually from E to D. But if the strings are out of tune the guitar doesn't alter any of the other strings.

Keeping your guitar in tune is something we should all know anyway.

The VG's biggest selling point is its versatility. I've recently been learning a few Stones songs, and its just so cool to go to Open G tuning with just the flick of a switch.

And you may be right about the new American Standard specs. I bought mine last year so I don't know what the 2008 VG's are like compared to the 2007's.

Cheers.

I have a quick question about VG tuning, but their is no need to start a new thread.

If you are playing at quiet levels, and then you turn the nob to drop d, does it sound wrong? it seems like it would since the string itself is still vibrating at the frequency of E, but the sound coming from the amp is D

That's a good question. I haven't noticed this, but I'll give it a try when I get a chance. I'll have to try playing the guitar accoustically on one of the alernate tuning settings and see what happens. Does it always sound like you're in standard tuning if you don't plug in? I'll let you know.

It will sound like it's in standard tuning when it's not plugged in..... I don't own one, but I know this because all the fancy stuff the VG strat does is because of It's roland pickup.

I own a VG. I think it is the most versatile guitar ever. It is the sweetest ride around.
