A couple that sound really great with my setup are:
- VOX AC30 CC1 w/Celestion Blue
- Carr Slant 6V (amazing clean channel)

Also have an '80 Twin - love it, but it stays in my living room for practicing.

I have a tweed deluxe (5E3) clone.. with fenders it´s just magical sounding, although it breaks up very early........

Bassman´s are also quite nice...

but then.. it´s just my opinion..

Well...to walk off the path of Fenders  ....The Hiwatt DR103 and DR504 are amazing amps. So is the Sound City 50 plus. Very nice clean and breaks up very sweet when you turn up the volume.

Where do you get the HRD 410 is solid state ?
Check it out ..

Hot Rod DeVille™ 410

Four 10” speakers deliver big, bright tone! Our Hot Rod DeVille 410 sends 60 scorching watts straight into a quartet of 10” Fender Special Design Eminence speakers, courtesy of two 6L6 Groove Tube output tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes. Yikes!

Nitro

The DeVille 410's drive channels and spring reverb are solid state driven. The only thing "Tube" about this amp is the clean channel, and you need alot of volume to drive it to breakup.

All the Hot Rod series amps are like this, the 410 and the Deluxes.

(1) best for clean tone - fender
(2) best for amplifier overdrive - marshall

I have used the Fender Twin, Peavey Deuce & Mace (that's right ... I'm old ...), even gibson amplifers from way back. For me it's the legendary Marshall Stack. Get's right down to it,Marshall has got it for everything from cean to raunchy. Since I mainly played small clubs, small outdoor concerts, and private parties, I went with the MOSFET 100 lead with a pair of 4 - 10 cabinets and never needed more than that.
The Fender Strat and Marshall stack go together like soup & sandwich in my book.

Rock On !!!

almost any fender amp will be great but I have found that 212 amps sound better, I have both solid state and tube amps. If you play clean try maxing your mid and bass with your treble on 6.5 and presence if the amp has one on 7. Great for blues and country

I like the Pro Jr or for larger venues, a Concert Reverb. YMMV ?

You're right. He used them before the Hiwatt's. One of the builders from Sound City began his own company...Hiwatt.

Awesome amps if you ask me.

the 59 bassman is great for clean tones, and what i love is how nicely it breaks up when you crank it, another plus is mixing the normal and bright channels!

i generaly prefer marshall for versatility, no switches just use the guitars tone and volume controls. Its only any good if you like english amp sounds though. American sounds Fender is the classic tone, and lets face it jim marshall made a million copying fender amps. A good cheap vintage buy at the moment are Selmer, great tone and you can get a 69 50watt plexi like for around £250.

Count me as a Marshall man (with a 1974 in the foreground):
