That was going to be my next question as well. Is the sustain that much better?

That is entirely dependent upon the build components. So i built my own ( Stratopartster II )
The White and Black is the HD.. Sustain is great, But I must add that the difference is the string thru body thru hardtail.
I plan on building 3 more over the late summer and fall.

When I was younger I purchased a brand new 1972 Sunburst Strat from Sam Ash on 48th Street in NYC. Cool looking guitar, with a tremolo. Since then I've had a few with the trem but more with a hardtail. The trems seemed to go out of tune more often and sometimes rattle a bit.

I now have a one piece Koa body by Warmoth with an original 1962 refretted Jazzmaster neck w/rosewood fretbrd, late 80's or early 90's Std Strat pickups, hardtail, push/pull pot to parallel the neck and middle pickup. The neck is good....has a Great feel but it's not as fast as I'd like it.

Now for you "TONE" Freaks. For those who have multiple strats. Put your ear to the upper bout and strum or pick the strings. You'll hear what sounds like an amplified version of what you're playing. The BODY does indeed resonate. At least mine does because it's just Tung Oil over the Koa, the neck butt and body socket are sanded with 1500 grit sandpaper and that thing sustains!

OK, so all of you with a bunch of strats go ahead and try the ear butt trick and tell us if you "HEAR" a difference between guitar bodies.

My 77 hardtail weighs 7.2 pounds and sounds like a strat. In my experience the sound isn't affected too much outside of tuning stability. Sustain is improved but not to a point that is particularly noticeable. I think the sound difference between a maple and rosewood fretboard is far more noticeable than between a hardtail and trem.

There is a very different tone in my mind. I've owned both, hardtail and trem bridges. I personally believe that the vibration of the springs in the trem cavety make a diference.

Your belief is fact. I like the added sound from the springs myself, others try to get rid of it by inserting tubing into the springs.
