I am looking to buy my first electric guitar, and really love the versatility that a strat offers. But one of my favorite types of music is classic rock stuff like led zeppelin. How close would i be able to get to that jimmy page sound with a fender strat?

Much of Jimmy Page's early Zep work was performed and recorded on a vintage Telecaster (including the studio solo to "Stairway......"). I don't see why you couldn't make a Strat work, given the right amp and some carefully-selected pedals.

Ah yes, Page also championed an old Danelectro with lipstick single coils.

I hate to say this, but you can buy any guitar and amp you like and you still won't sound like Jimmy Page.

Dont forget too, Page rocked Strats in the later Zep stuff too.
"In the evening" is a good example.

maybe so.

I dont know why more people dont wire their pickups to be able to play in series. I have a series/parallel in mine, and i never use two on parallel. Now, I dont play country, or a lot of music that calls for the quack of parallel. But i throw the middle/bridge in series, and it gets a close humbucker sound, a bit different because of the distance of the two pickups, but it'll push an amp teetering on breakup into overdrive w/no problems.

Yes, get a hss or as mentioned above install a series/parallel switch. Or put a JB jr. in the bridge. Or use an eq pedal to tune the pickup sound and boost it. Or just play it the way it is and tell Jimmy to suck it.

Just get a Strat and a Les Paul. Then you should have all rock styles covered, and have the best of both worlds too. "Please don't slam me for this one. I'm definitely not trying to promote Gibsons here!" I would say the same this if I was on the Gibson forum also.

Back in the day when my band used to do Zeppelin tunes, as always, I used a Strat and had no problem whatsoever nor did I have any complaints from our audiences. Obviously, YMMV.

Alright, Im not as fluent in text talk, so I have to ask; what the hell does YMMV mean? I see it all the time, and am clueless to what the hell it means. I got the IMO,or IMHO, that's about it, i kind of just have to go along with the syntax to follow.
