Fender used to make a MIM Standard Fat Strat that had a humbucker in the bridge position and a floyd rose for around $300. I know because I played one and it was really good. Don't know if they still make it or not, but you could always ask. As others have said don't fix what isn't broken! I think Fender has always supported their customers and their wants and needs. I have 3 Strats to prove it! Fender makes great guitars and always will. Trust me, there is a Fender out there for everyone, you just have to look for it!

what about a metal guitar? a fender that i can play metal on without having to spend every cent i have on new pickups and effect pedals?

There's plenty of guitar makers out there who make guitars for metalheads. Why not buy one of those? If you don't like those other makers guitars thats not Fenders fault, is it?

Fender has a huge customer base that is perfectly happy with Fender products as they are. Why would Fender want to mess with that?

You should find a manufacturer that makes a guitar with hot as can be active pups and a real cool metal look. That's just not Fenders thing.

By the way, there's plenty of metal being played out there on Fender guitars.

relax man, i dont hate other guitars i love strats... and i bet many other metalheads feel the same way

It's cool. I wasn't saying you hate other guitars. I was saying if you can't find a metal guitar from another manufacturer that you want, then that isn't Fender's fault. But, if you love strats and bet many other metalheads do to.....what was the point of this thread?

Fender Showmaster, HSS Floyd Rose Strat, HSS Fat Strat, John 5 Tele's, The Strat (the one introduced back in the '80s) all fine Metal Guitars.

TC-90 didn't catch on, but it was a new Idea.

well, fender has a tradition of great guitars which continually sell... why would they change? as to making a metal guitar, there are HSS, but there are other companies who specialize in them, so why waste time messing around with things which aren't their specialty... i think fender is far ahead of other brands in customer satisfaction and care as well, i mean look at the outrageous prices gibson are charging (and with poor customer care from what i have heard)

And Gibson's quality is pretty poor right now, from what I've tried at music stores anyway. I tried a $1500 Gibson Les Pual Standard next to a $900 Epiphone Elitist Les Pual Custom, and the Epihone played smoother and easier, the finish was nicely applied, compared to the uneven coats and sloppily glued frets of the Gibson. The Epihone sounded as good since the higher end models have Gibson USA pickups in them.

If I was to get a Metal Guitar, I'd get a Jackson DK2 with Seymour Duncans in them. Megadeth sounded best on Jacksons with Seymours.

Is it a Standard or Custom? When I finnaly get a Les Paul, it'll be an elitist. I have a '95 Gibson Nighthawk that plays nice and smooth, great Heritage Cherry finish. They used to make great guitars.

i have the les paul standard in faded cherry burst, but they discontinued it the year after i got it.... i'm sure the custom or the standard plus would be even better.... the only problem i've had with it is the toggle switch... they use standard epi switches i think so i'm going to get mine changed because it doesnt change sometimes (i think i used it as a killswitch a bit much and it couldnt handle it)

Those are good discussion questions: "Has Fender lost touch with guitarists? Are the accountants running the company?"

I don't think the management of Fender has lost touch.

The accountants are a necessary "evil" for a huge business.

In the past, Fender and Gibson have tried to introduce new models and new features. In about every case I can remember, they have been failures because the guitar buying market mostly wants the CLASSIC designs from them (Fender and Gibson).

I've wondered why Fender doesn't try to grab some of the market from PRS. But Fender's flame top model super strats don't seem to last very long or get very popular.

in the early 90's i owned what fender then called the "heavy metal strat" it had humbuckers, a floyd rose, no pickgaurd, and even though it had the classic headstock shape, fender was written really small, and it said "strat" in big script letters. anyone remember this guitar??

I dont think Fender has lost touch with guitarists. There are many different Strats and though they may look similar, they can be very different. I have 2 of them. One is stock and the other has a very heavy sounding stacked humbucker in the bridge. That one can play Metal in one switch position and Blues in another. There are Strats with Seymore Dunkins and other pickups. The choices are endless and they can all be modified the way you want.
