Hi,

Is there a reason that fender don't have this combo?

I know its a 50 style shape and since the 60's it went to C shape. The only v shape neck with rosewood is the eric johnson model.

Is it not very popular? Looks like i'll have to dig deep into my pockets and get a custom order!

Starting with the Jazzmaster, Fender began using rosewood as a fretboard material in 1958. The feature was adopted on other models in 1959.

Some early 1959 Strats still had the 1-ply 8-hole pickguard and the soft V backshape. Fender changed the pickguard design to the 3-ply 11-hole style at the fall of that year and switched to the C neck profile in 1960.

Rosewood neck guitars sound different as they use hotter pickups.

Hi dean: one version of the American Deluxe Strat is available with rosewood and a V neck. Once you sell that CS you should liberate more than enough cash for a Dlx.

Cheers - C

Are you sure? I thought the American Deluxe V neck was only available in maple?

That's what I thought too.
you can always get Warmoth to make you a V with rosewood, or any fretboard for that matter.

Oh, is that right? If so then I stand properly corrected. Apologies if I've mislead.

...Am I the only one who finds the Am Dlx product pages on this website a little less than user friendly? I thought I remembered a Dlx V + rosewood, but I gave up trying to check it after a minute or two. :?

Cheers - C

I had the same question a few months ago as I enjoy playing the Am Dlx with soft V that is at my local GC everytime I go in, but I prefer Rosewood fretboard. The Eric Johnson, or modding your own from Warmouth seems to be the only choices. The EJ seems like a pretty nice guitar to consider.

It is, the E. Johnson I mean. I haven't played the RW version, but its definitely unique with the binding. I had an EJ for a few weeks, and its the only prduction strat that I couldn't find anything I would change. I think imo that its the best thought out and executed production model strat they put out.
That being said, if its just a v-profile neck with a rosewood finger board, buying. A warmoth, made out of quartersawn maple is your best, and most affordable bet. Get it unfinished (that's how id get anything from them because I've come across issues with their bodies that were bought painted, because they can hide imperfections, where they can't with an unfinished one. Ibought one, reprofiled the neck, actually, gave it a profile. Ordered it w/boat neck. Then put a soft V in it, then shaved some treble side shoulder off between the 7th and 14th fret, not a lot, just enough where my hand wraps around the. Fingerboard easier. This keeps the mass from the thicker wood in the middle and bass side shoulder. Thinned the headstock, put a bone nut in, and shot it w/vintage tinted nitro finish. Everyone who plays it wants it. I got it done for about $300, granted I did the nut, and most of the shaving, and my friend did the nitro. But it should cost you less if you don't do any woodworking. Plus you onlu have to shoot the back of the neck and the headstock because of the rosewood. Then its yours, and the quartersawn maple isnice and rigid. It also looks awesome with a tinted finish, makes the grain pop.

thanks i did the consider the warmoth neck. You can buy it with the soft v, dark rosewood etc etc.. with nut etc. so i guess its just ready to go on?

The quality is good?

Also would the headstock be blank? or would it have the fender decal on there?

My main guitar has. Warmoth soft v neck (what they call a "Clapton" profile) and an ebony fingerboard.

The quality is top-shelf excellent, and you can spec any of a wide range of finishes. It will not have a Fender decal: in fact, as part of their licensing agreement with Fender, Warmoth will not apply ANY logo - not even their own - in the "traditional name place" on the headstock. You can demonstrate your lack of respect for Fender's tradmark and get a fake, or you can be a Cool Guy and create your own unique decal.
