Hello all, I am fairly new to guitar and just bought my first Fender. I bought an American Standard Sienna with Rosewood and Mustang III amp. So far am loving it. I have on item that I would like to change and would like to know recommendations. I prefer the tremolo on the American Deluxe due to the pop in and lock bar making it easier to remove when putting into case.

What would suggestions be for upgrading the tremolo on the Standard?

I have been looking at the following:
Fender Deluxe Tremolo
Floyd Rose Tremolo
Callaham Tremolo

Also will a LSR roller nut be beneficial or is it a lot of hype?

Any help would be appreciated?

Let me get this straight.

You bought a new guitar.

It is your first Fender.

You love it.

You want to change the trem to one with a pop in arm because it is easier to remove to put in the case?

Why didn't you buy a Deluxe in the first place?

Other than the pop in arm, the Deluxe and Callaham have no advantage over the two-post American Standard trem. Unless you have drank Callaham's cool-aide, but that is a whole 'nother thing.

Are you prepared to route your new guitar for a Floyd Rose trem and destroy the guitar's value?

Maybe you should just stick with what you have and get used to it. Screwing a trem arm in or out is not that big a deal in the grand scheme of guitar playing.

I opted for the Standard due to didn't see a benefit of the additional $500 just to have a pop out trem bar. I had seen that it would be much less to just add a Deluxe trem to it after. Just wanted input on if I do change is there an advantage to other manufacturers vs the Fender one based on above it doesn't seem like their is. If routing is needed then the floyd rose is out as I am not prepared to do that to a new guitar

Hi g.pederson,

Looks like you really only have one choice, the Deluxe Bridge.

The Floyd would only be an advantage if you also install a locking nut, and the post spacing and string spacing are different from the Fender two-point bridge, so rework would be required.

Callaham doesn't make a bridge for the two-point, at least no plates, only blocks and saddles and other parts.

The Deluxe Bridge listed here doesn't come with the arm, sold separately on same site. Definitely get the Callaham replacement block if you have the money, it is the best steel block that you can get, and much better than the cast blocks in the Am Dlx and Am Std. The Callaham arms are called "virtual pop-in" as they can simply be dropped in like the AM Deluxe or screwed-in like the Am Std. You can also find complete Deluxe bridges on eBay if you care to search there.

And yes, the roller nut will minimize friction at the nut, and that's a good thing. The Deluxe HSS come with a roller nut stock.

Let's see,

$115 for the Deluxe bridge + $83 for the Callaham block and arm = $198.

Add labor (unless the OP does it himself) to install the new bridge and set the guitar up, and gee, that extra $500 for the American Deluxe doesn't look so bad, especially when you consider the other upgrades that the AM Deluxe gets you (noiseless pickups, locking tuners, S-1 switching, compound radius fretboard, etc.). All for the lack of a pop-in arm on the Am Standard.

your pretty new to guitar, give it a chance.
the pop in trem takes a certain amount pressure to pop in and take out.
itll be cheaper to get guitar stand, and leave the trem on.

It's funny, I have a strat plus with a screw in trem arm and the instructions stated to leave the arm in because if you removed it you could loose the spring inside. It said to store the guitar in its case with the arm still in the guitar. To do this I needed to point the arm towards the corner of the case. I have been doing this since 1989 with no problem. Did they change the dimensions of the new case. If the arm is the only problem I would look into this rather than to immediately start chopping up your new guitar.

I'd just do what I've done for the 15 or so years I've been around American Standards. Place the spring and arm back in the ziplock bag they came in when you're not using them. That way you won't lose the spring, and you'll still have the plastic tip on the arm, which the "pop and lock" arm doesn't have.
