hello friends.

I have a new american standard strat and a set of texas special, my question is:
wich is the best capacitor for this guitar ( examples 0,22 or 0,47 uf, paper in oil or orange drops, just one capacitor or two) please help me i have a lot of doubts!

I think you make a mistake ; not 0,22 to 0,47 but 0,022 to 0,047

I put 0,022 in my American Standard , an old wax cap. IMO orange drop is good enough, paper in oil is too expensive, and can you hear the difference ?
_____________________________________________________________
Depending of the cap value;

2200 pf - 6800 pf for slightly warmer tone.
0.001 - 0,047 for a "woman " tone .
0,1 and higher for a completely dark and "clinicaly dead" tone

the money its not important to upgrade my strat , the diference in 10 or 15 $ , for you whats better paper in oil or orange drop?

I think people like Orange Drops because they are consistent. I have a 022 on some Texas specials, but I'm considering going to 047 next string change. If all it does is ground off higher frequencies, how could one sound better than another if they are the same resistance?

Caps that have the same value but use different material for construction, will react differently to the frequencies. There are many factors that influence how a cap reacts (sounds), and the reaction/interaction is partly dependent on how the cap is made and what material is used. The value, such as .022, is not a resistance, but a capacitance value, typically in micro-Farads (uF). The resistance of a capacitor (ESR) is dependent on the type of cap and it's value in Farads as well as the frequencies applied to it. So, different types of caps can have a different affect on the sound. Orange Drop, mica, paper, can all sound a little different from each other, even if all are the same value.

Cool, any Idea what the consensus is among the blues pro's?

A certain capacitor value, when paired with a resistor (pot), for a tone circuit, will have a certain "cut-off frequency", or more specifically, an amount of frequencies above a certain point determined by the values of pot and cap, that are bled to ground. A .047 cap on a tone pot, will have a lower cutoff frequency, and will bleed more frequencies (broader range of frequencies) to ground than a .022 cap on the same pot. So, for example, the higher value .047 will give a warmer tone than the .022, if either are used in the same circuit. Certain pups even pair better with certain caps, so a ceramic cap might sound better with CS 69s, while an orange drop may sound better with TSs (just to illustrate a point, not necessarily correct).

There isn't really a consensus for tone, some prefer the stock ceramic discs, some prefer an orange drop, some prefer mica, some prefer paper in oil, etc. Each has its own qualities, and everyone's ears are different.

I have a set of Fat 50's which are wired with 250k pots and .022mfd ceramic caps. It's a nice compromise that suits the pickups and my playing style. The guitar is an ash body hardtail with maple fretboard.

Don't worry about the tone capacitor.
What you need is a flux capacitor.
Just need to harness the required 1.21 Gigawatts via your nearest USB connector and then listen to that baby hum!

Thomas; forget .22 and .47 it is .022 and .047. If in this forum we suggest you a .022 and you ask to the store a .22 you'll said your sound was wost than before . ahahaha !!!!

Retroverbial talk about .022 and most ( all ? ) of the Strat use this value, IMO it is the best tone and orange drop do the job.

I hop you won't tell us that you play on a Squier amp !!!!!

FWIW, if one uses all sorts of effects, the composition of the capacitor doesn't mean a whole lot.

And you must do it in a delorean in order for it to work...
