My girlfriend and I have been on an investing kick this summer and have bought a lot of guitars and amps from CL, and make road trips when we find cool stuff - Well, I found this one, and rolled the dice and took a ride and picked it up - Ended up talking to the guy about it before going, and he had told me he bought it at an estate sale, just because it was a Fender - He said it had been painted, because he had never seen this color, and that he didnt figure much of it was original because it looked to be in pretty decent shape - He knew by the serial # that it was a '79 model strat - so I figured, what the heck, the neck could be worth more than what he wanted for it - So much to my surprise, here is what I found!!!

Ok, regarding the color, it is the original color, no refin job - this is WINE RED, I believe the color code was #24 on these models, not 100% without checking, but knew as soon as I seen it what it was - Once I brought it home, I immediately tore it completely apart, with the help of my son - here is some pics of what we found

The sticker inside the pickup cavity reads JANUARY 1979

I was really shocked how clean and completely original this guitar really was - The original plan was to try to make some money off of it, but I plan on keeping it for a while now, it plays great!

The pickups, pots and everything are correct and original to the guitar - Pickups are sound awesome - The only thing that wasnt original on the guitar was the tuners, but I had an old set of "F" tuners that I put back on it - Here is a picture of the complete guitar - I havent even looked up the value of the guitar, because I dont wanna be tempted to sale it just yet - its a very cool piece of guitar history as far as Im concered as a guitar player and a Fender Collector!!

I browse craigs list (local only) and I never run across that kind of score. It appears to be in excellent shape. That was a trip worth making. :) How much does it weigh? just curious.

Every so often a score like this surfaces. I'm glad it was by one of our Forum Members.

Congratulations. When (and if) you flip it, buy your girl a nice piece of jewelry with the profits!
