There was a guy awhile back who brought his guitar to the shop to have the strings changed. Sounds absurd? Well physically, changing strings is more difficult than adjusting intonation, neck relief & bridge action. Sure, if you don't know what you're doing, by all means take it to a tech, but then learn how to do the basics yourself. It's rewarding in itself & fun to boot, & trust me, it's not rocket science. All you need is a few basic tools & knowhow. Just check out the setup guide.

I doubt it's the truss rod if its just the low E, and B strings. The radius of set at the bridge shouldnt follow the radius of the fretboard exactly, even on a compounded fretboard like I believe the new Am DX's are. The Low E and A string should sit a bit higher than the rest of the strings relative to the fretboard radius.
.

Just want to say I took it into a tech. He looked at the neck and said it loked good, had a slight amount of relief in it. I told him about the buzz and he said the saddles on the E and A strings did look a tad low.

He only looked at it only briefly, hasn't set it up yet. He will do it tomorrow

I guess the only thing I still need clarified is this: Should you try and get neck as straight as possible, if your goal is low action? Then I proceed to setting action? (assuming frets are all level)

What are some symptoms of a neck with too much forward bow? What are some symptoms of a neck with too much back bow? I am looking for info such as "it would buzz on this fret" etc

THanks

If you had read the link I provided you in my very first response to you, you wouldn't be asking these questions.

I just set mine up recently for the first time. I won't lie, I do have some mechanical aptitude...so take that for what it's worth. I bought the Fender Stratocaster Handbook, and used it along with the owner's manual in the "case candy." I didn't have any problems, and neither should anybody else if they use all of the right tools listed. I didn't find any problems with the intonation, but changing from .009s to .010s required a truss-rod adjustment, setting the string height, and also the tremolo height. It now plays like it did when I first took it out of the case, and stays in tune for more than one day at a time.
