I had a Highway One and never gelled with it. Cool guitar, but... something just never worked for me.

My favourite... the one I'm waiting for. But currently, the red one. Definitely rocks my socks. 8)

Vlad...Suprised that you never gelled with one...a friend of mine had an early one with small headstock and SSS in the blonde and it was a SWWEEEET playing guitar...he PCS'd before I had a chance to buy it from him and I would have in a heartbeat...fine guitar. But understand to a point...I have never found a MIA Standard or Deluxe Strat (or American Series or whatever they call them now) that I just couldn't put down.

Mine was one of the first HSS ones with a big headstock. The only thing stopping me from getting one of the new CS Pro models is that headstock- I hate it! loved the original ones though. I have a serious fetish for early '00s Fenders, which stems from perpetually reading the Fender price list for 2002...

The H1 I had played pretty good (had nice chunky frets, as I recall), but I didn't like the look, the sound or (weirdly) the smell. It smelt like a stable after the groom had been feeding the horses tacos.

My Deluxe is just... impassable. Until the new boy turns up, at any rate!

WHOOOAAA...Feeding a horse tacos    Now talk about a mess :!: :!: :!:

I agree about the big headstock, I always thought it was just too big and I think was only enlarged so CBS could put the Name Fender in bigger letters. Yeah I know it has been stated that they had some warping problems...yeah right!

I read that Fender did the big headstock thing for "stability." I’m Fender knows if it's true or not. Remember there were other Fender guitars that got the big headstock 1st.

I own a black w/ maple neck 06/'07 Hwy 1 (SSS) and never really used it when I first bought it because I played my other Strats so much. Then I temporarily moved somewhere where I could only bring two guitars. I brought the Hwy 1 so it would force me to play it more and get to know it better.

It worked. I ended up gigging with it for a year. I found that the guitar sounds really good with overdrive, the tone knobs down to about 4 and in positions 2 & 4. It gives me a very Clapton like tone. I feel like these guitars really shine when playing heavy Metal and Rock.

Lastly I gave it a black pick guard and parts. I then shined it up with some rubbing compound and a cotton cloth. It looks very much like my '77 Strat or Sting’s black Strat he used on, “Bring on the Night.”

These are really great under rated guitars.

Whereas I love the sound of the L series Strats('62-'65)I guess my favourite Strats would be the 60's reissue or the Jimmie Vaughn which although it has a V neck sounds very much like a 60s Strat.
