I would think they would be better smaller, I mean I press them all the way anyways...

I prefer them for the ease of playing and for the cleaner left-hand articulation. I don't press the string all the way to the wood.

Better for bending. "Bend the strings like it's the last bend you'll ever play" Buddy Guy.

Confucius says: Man who presses strings all the way to the fretboard has strong fingers and plays out of tune!

Why do you make such an assumption?

Because if you press the string hard enough to touch the fretboard, the note will be terribly sharp. Try it.

This sounded strange, but I just tried it. I learned something new today, and its not even 9:00am. I did notice that it doesn't take that much more pressure for me to put the strings to the board though. What about your finger tips? My fingers always touch the board on either side of the string that I am pressing on. I mainly play blues so I bend quite a bit. Should I use larger strings, or get bigger frets? I believe my frets are the medium jumbo.

Have you tried getting the sound with a lighter touch? I'm always afraid I'll wear the frets down if I press too hard. Somehow I did that to a couple of frets on my American strat Texas special??

Actually, I prefer the smaller ones myself. With the way I play, I find the big ones act like speed bumps to my fingertips and that they can mess up my fingerboard intonation if I happen to finger a note or chord with varying pressure.

I just find it is easier to play. Mainly my right hand does not get tired because I don't have to press as hard (yes I am left handed when I play guitar)

If You want more concrete sound, use to jumbo frets

Larger frets make it easier for you to grip the strings when bending.... that's why SRV prefered jumbo frets; it's difficult to grip huge strings with small fretwire
