American Deluxe or new American Standard?

Bearing in mind i'm left handed and would have to wait (according to Fender UK) upto 5months for the new Standard (and i hate waiting!).

I can get the Am Deluxe now but is it the better guitar?

You're basically paying the extra cash to get the noiseless/S-1 pickup situation and locking tuners, as I understand it. Maybe I've missed something. You can go to the product section of the site and open the detailed specification popups for each and do a direct comparison.

I posted a similar question and seems like most people don't find the noiseless/S-1 all that great (I played on an American Deluxe for about 30 minutes yesterday and I didn't like the pickups). You can upgrade to some Sperzel or some real Schaller (not junkie Fender Schaller Licensed) locking tuners for $60-70.

Guess it's about how much you're willing to pay not to wait ;)

You gotta play both to see whats what. I agree with David, I have played the American deluxe(with a Vneck). Loved the neck, not too sold on the pickups. Its personal taste. They are both great guitars, its just to my ears I like the American Standard more. Plus I have never really been a big fan of locking tuners.

The highway one is a whole other ball of wax. For the cash its arguably the best strat you can buy dollar for dollar. But again you would have to play it to be sure.

So go on and get out there and get your hands around some necks.

I own the American deluxe and the standard. The neck on my deluxe is a tad thicker "C" shape than the American and you can immediately feel that a great deal more work went into the detailing of the deluxe neck.

Fender thinks the SCN Noiseless are among their best and also put them on the Custom Pro. On first playing, the noiseless can sound kind of dead after Fender single-coils. I've tried them a couple of times and felt that way 2 out of 3 times. What I did notice is if you've got a good amp and up the gain and the treble, the SCN noiseless can start to hint at a kind of crazy vibe that I think Fender was going for with them and maybe they can bottle that and multiply it to get some real wild hot noiseless pickups. Everytime I've played the Beck noiseless, they've hit me as kind of mellow and all but also just real sweet sounding pickups. For me with the noiseless at the moment the Becks have the edge and I'm sticking with single coils that came on my Highway One for now, since they have hum cancelling.

Sorry lost my point. It's just noiseless are a stacked humbucking pickup and Fender has engineered out a lot of the humbucker's problems, but still hasn't totally bottled that energy that every Fender single coil has - and that's on an American or a Highway One. One thing about the single coils on both the American and Highway One, they have hum cancelling and I can tell you it works well the reverse polarity middle does get rid of hum.

Thankyou all for your advice. No i havent played any of them, thats the problem- the left hand versions just arent about to try!

I think in my head i have now ruled out the Am Deluxe, due to the pick ups, neck and tuners.

Cheers

Check out the custom shop. I think they'll build you exactly what you want.
