Anyone have a new American Deluxe with the N3 Pickups. I had one with the SCN's, and didnt care for them. THey werent bad, but a much more modern sound than I go for. I was just curious to how these are. I know they use differnt Alnico magnets for different positions. I like Alnico II myself, single coil or humbucker. Im just curious to how they compare with some pickups I may have already tried.

I think they sound pretty good, but bit of a processed sound. Here is what I did...

Hope this helps.

I tried them, and thought they were rather sterile sounding, especially compared to a regular new American Standard which took all of 15secs to fall in love with. If I was to get an Am Dlx, it would be an HSS to break up the boredom.

No, they come with a weird assortment of stacked single coils. They use different magents for each possition. One has an Alnico II, then a III, then I belive a Alnico V. I didnt like the SCN's too much. They had way too much pull, when Id use the small metal ruler I have with 64ths of an inch, Id have to practically stabilize the body with my foot to pull the ruller off the pickups the cobalt magnets were so strong.

Wow.....I was reading in the new Frontline about them. Hadn't realised they'd changed them, but I don't really keep up with the Am. Deluxe line. Like the vintage reissue stuff more.
