Last summer there was something going on in the park and during soundcheck the guy said "TEST.... 1... 2.... syphilis.... syphilis... test....". It was extremely confusing... :shock:

Either you mis-heard him or he was making a joke based on Tom Hanks' appearance on Saturday Night Live about twenty-something years ago. Hanks played Garth's cousin (Wayne & Garth of the "Wayne's World" skit), who was a roadie for Aerosmith.

He set up the mics and checked them by saying, "Testing...Testing...1...2...sibilance, sibilance..."

Sibilance is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sibilant_consonant

Actually, it's a pretty good way to test a mic--the word "Sibilance" has so many plosives and frictives that you can tell if the mic is going to make you sound like Sylvester the Cat (Sthufferin' Sthuccatash!") when you say "s" or "p" sounds.

Since you are a teenaged Australian, I have no idea if you have ever seen the old Saturday Night Live skits...the time of Hartman, Myers, Carvey, Spade, Miller, Dunn, Hooks, Rock, Farley...greatness.

Policeman pulls a Juggler over for speeding. Asks the driver where he was going in such a hurry. Juggler replies "I have a show to do and I'm late."
Policeman says "I like to juggle as a hobby. Show me some tricks and I'll let you off with a warning."
Juggler replies "I have no props."
"No problem" replies the Officer. He goes to the trunk of his patrol car and gets 3 road flares. He lights them up and hands them to the Juggler who proceeds to juggle them on the side of the road.
Moments later a 3rd car pulls in behind the patrol car. A man gets out watches the Officer and the Juggler for a minute and calmly gets in back of the patrol car. The officer promptly walks over to his car and asks the man what he thinks he's doing.
"Well Officer I've been drinking and driving so I thought I would save you some trouble because I know there's no way I'll pass that test."
