Old thread resurrected for the holidays. I guess the turkey was not the only one on the chopping block.

Again No. The Asian made Squiers you are referring to were not made out of plywood veneers as John Sims explained. As for anything " home made " these are not within the scope of this discussion since they are not a Fender product..

I'm sure that there is a huge tone difference between plywood and laminate.

In laymen's terms, they are both "plywood".

I spent ALL last winter mostly repairing cracked acoustics from the cold winter. Keep them hydrated.

I recommend the Oasis guitar humidifier, its cheap, but works the best, better than all the more expensive ones I've used, Martin guitars recommend that one too.

Only if the layman is a misinformed idiot. A ply body and a laminated body are completely different things. As stated above, Fender don't make bodies out of ply but they do laminate them.

And will you also be thinking the neck is made of plywood as a neck is often laminated?

About ten years ago, I bought a used Fender MIM Strat that had a stripped out strap button. I remembered a simple fix from my days as a carpenter. I put a toothpick down into the bottom of the hole in the body and broke it off at the right length so it was flush with the body. I put the original screw back in and it held tight as can be. It still has not come loose. I use the same technique when I put lockers on that have smaller screws. No need for filling or bigger screws. It's a simple fix that works.
