Nothing against Mexican guitars. I almost bought one. Living in CA, I don't like that nothing from Mexico stuff and that's where my Blues Junior was made and I'm very happy with it. There is a difference though between the American Strat bodies and the Mexican Strat bodies and Squier bodies according to the most knowledgeable guys at Guitar Center and these pictures here, and it's one reason Fender can sell the Squiers and MIMs for a lot less money. If my thinner Squier is a good example, which I'm now using for parts, the glued body weighs way more than the classic American Alder body, and I like a light guitar. Not dissing MIMs at all, but when choosing there's trade-offs between cost and what you get. My Highway One takes plenty of graphite in the nut every couple of months, and is not a Beck Artist, or a Custom Pro, or a Beck Custom with the LSR nut and that's okay because I didn't pay all that extra money either. Once I start making money as a session musician I'll upgrade.

orvilleowner,

No, not my intention to direct that at you. I agree wholeheartedly with what you said about the cost and the woods. It just seems that people get a hard time if they have a MIM strat over a MIA strat, and that shouldn't be. If I had the money I would probably buy another MIA, but that won't stop me from checking out other Fender products. I am just saying that whether it's MIM or MIA, it's up to the player to decide what they like. 1,2, 3 or however many pieces the guitar may be or whatever wood it's made from, it just ther personal preference of the player and we shouldn't assume that guitars are great or stink by where they are made or how many pieces the body is. It should all be about feel and sound to the individual player. The bottom line is that Fender makes great guitars no matter what!

They do the job in their respective price point.

It still is a Fender Strat.

You know, I don't think a single poster in this topic has called MIM strats "garbage" or said that they "stink."

There are some find playing & sounding guitars made out of plywood! But you wouldn't call that "quality wood."

I've been told by more than once Fender dealer that MIM strat bodies are not made from 1 solid piece of wood like MIAs are. Not sure how much difference that makes.

Don't know who told you that, but American bodies aren't made from one piece of wood, either. They're made of 2 to 3 pieces of alder, just like the MIM's.

Further proof, if any were needed, that the number one source of misinformation about cars, guitars and audio equipment is the people who sell them.

MIM are made of the same kind of wood but they use 5 to 7 pieces of wood. I have a MIM body but replaced the neck with US custom made, US PUs and US bridge.

There are a couple of such Fender Factory Photo Tours out there on the web. This one seems the most recent and the most comprehensive.

And shows that MIM bodies are still multi-piece.

My 2 year old amber Highway One has a four piece body, but it's extremely well matched up (color and grainwise).
