whats up i play in a band that requires alot of different guitars because we switch tunings for most of the songs. i am running low on cash so ill be using a squire for my alternate tuning guitar until i can buy a better one. the only issue is that when i touch the volume knobe it put out the worst feedback i have ever heard and wont stop until you play with it for about ten seconds. do you know what this might be and if so how can it be fixed for the time being?

The bottom line is the pickups I wolud grade the pickups and do some sheilding. or if you dont have money I would do sheilding in the cavity and make sure everything is grounded good

The electrical part underneath the knob, the potentiometer ("pot", for short), is literally coming apart. The only thing you can do for the time being is what you've been doing. Unfortunately, that isn't going to work for much longer as sooner or later the pot will literally fall apart.

Decent replacement pots are under $10. If you or anyone you know is handy with a soldering iron, buy a 250K ohm audio pot and transfer all the wires from the old pot to the new one including soldering the right terminal to the can just like the old one. Or, if you're really strapped for cash, see if anyone you know has an extra 250K ohm audio pot lying around that you could have and do the same to wire it up as above.
