I don't know if this has been posted before, but I haven't seen it.

I've come up with a fairly simply mod to get 9 pickup combinations from a Strat with the standard 5-way pickup selector switch by just adding a single toggle switch. It has to be an On/On/On toggle switch.

It's a takeoff off the normal 7-way Strat toggle setup, but the toggle is a 3 position toggle. Flip it the other way & it adds the Neck & Bridge pups in series (a great tone on Strat or Tele) plus that same Neck & Bridge in series with the Middle added in parallel. That's a funky, hollow quacky tone.

The switch provides these 3 sets of switching options:

Toggle Switch Center (Normal Strat):

1. Bridge – Tone 2
2. Middle & Bridge (Parallel) – Both Tones
3. Middle – Tone 1
4. Middle & Neck (Parallel) – Tone 1
5. Neck – Tone 1

Toggle Switch Up:

1. Bridge
2. Middle & Bridge (Parallel)
3. Middle
4. Neck & Bridge in Series w/ Middle Parallel
5. Neck & Bridge in Series

Toggle Switch Down:

1. Neck & Bridge (Parallel)
2. All 3 Pickups (Parallel)
3. Middle
4. Middle & Neck (Parallel)
5. Neck

I've got it setup as Tone 1 (next to the volume pot) is for Neck & Middle and Tone 2 is for Bridge. There are some limitations in how the tone pots can be wired (some tone pot configurations will mess up the switching), but we can worl through those if people are interested.

It can also be flipped around to have the added pickups on the other ends, if you know what I mean.

Here's the wiring diagram:

I've also got a version of this drawn up using 2 push-pull pots, if anyone is interested in that.

The On/On/On toggle needs to be one that works like this:
