Hey guys, I'm kind of in a band, and I mainly play rhythm guitar. I'm currently playing an Aria PE STD, which is my first guitar. It's okay, nothing special. I really want a Fender MiM strat, but am unsure if it will fit in with playing rhythm guitar. Is it worth me getting one? Or should I go for something like an Epiphone Les Paul?

What genre are you playing? Do you have the opportunity to go play one vs. another in a store or pawn shop?

Playing alternative rock sort of thing. E.g. Arctic Monkeys, (if you've heard of them in America) Yeah I could compare them at my local shop, are strats used to play rhythm usually though?

Strat is very versatile and can play rhythm with the best of guitars. Go to your local shop, pick one up and "go for it". Then decide for yourself. Report back, too :D

Good hunting

Strats are absolutely used to play rhythm all the time. I asked about the genre only because if you are into high gain stuff, you'll probably want a humbucker or hi-output single coil at least. I would let the feel of the guitar guide me when it comes to choosing strat vs. lp for your needs. The only way to do that is go play on them both until you are sure you are making the right choice or they kick you out of the store, in which case you find another store and keep going. No issue playing rhythm with strats though.

I play rhythm guitar (mostly) in my band and use several different guitars including a MIM HSS strat. We do classic rock, country and blues and the strat fits in well with most of it.

As it's been said here before, the strat is a versatile instrument, and with the right pedals and amp can (and does) play rhythm with the best of 'em.

+1

If God were a guitar, He'd be a Fender Stratocaster!

'Nuff said.

The chime and sparkle of a Strat cuts through any mix for rhythm work.In my last band both me and the rhythm player used Strats and they sounded great together.

Stratocasters are the most versatile guitar on the planet bar none.
