Hello again,

I have narrowed my search for a stratocaster down to a 62 reissue, however I don't want to make a poor decision, or later on be filled with regret thinking that I should have bought a 62 Hot rod reissue. I would like to hear any of your opinions in the matter. I am partial to the 62 reissue because I may end up switching out the pickups anyway, but please give me any information you may have!

Thanks again!

TJ

Hello Tommy,

That 62 hot rod has a great neck {very thick},
it also comes in sherwood green {personal favorite}.

Best of luck with your choice.

Hey guys,

Well thank you all for your help and opinions, I made my decision and lastweek I brought home a 1962 Reissue Hot Rod Strat with the sunburst finish, I have owned several strats over the years, however this is the first strat that I have owned in about 5 years. Let me just say that this strat is great, It is back to bare bones and what playing is all about. I personally don't care for the S-1 switching system that the Deluxe offers. I want a guitar that is honest and plays as good as you can make it sound. I love the meaty neck on this guitar it is so comfy and broken in and the frets are a sized medium Jumbo, I used to not care for larger frets however my tele has larger frets and my PRS. However the tone that this monster delivers is AWESOME!! it is not a hot tex mex sound but more of a John Fusciante or Mark Knopfler, I use it for blues and clean sounding stuff and it delivers, I love the weight of the guitar. Just shy under 8 lbs which brings sustain for days and the sunburst finish I have always enjoyed over the years.

When I compared it to the standard 62 reissue the main differences was, the weight (hot rod being heavier). The 62 Standard did not have the reverse wound middle pick up so there was a little more hum, and the the standard pick ups did not have to tonal range or pallette that the hot rod had. The neck on the 62 standard was thinner. The Sustain on both instruments was good.

This is just my personal opinion the best thing that I could recommend is getting your hands on one of each and plugging it in. go online read some reviews, search your music shops or Ebay and get the best deal that you can! Have Fun

62 Hot Rod is the best strat I have owned yet and very comparable to the custom shop strats as far as tone in my opinion

I guess with the 3-position switch, you can wedge a matchbook cover in the switch and get some unusual sounds between positions 1 and 2, and 2 and 3?

Hey guys,
Thanks again for your input, I saw that there was a question regarding the the 62 hot rod and the 3 way selector switch using a matchbook to get some unique tones, I just switched out the 3 way switch with the 5 way switch so unfortunaly I will not be able to try this out until next week but once I do I will post some good info for you guys!

Once again I am not saying that the hot rod is better it is just my personal opinion and my approach to playing that the hot rod better suits me. I have played the 62 standard reissue and it is a beautiful instrument!

So anyway take care everyone and I will talk to you soon!
